Santo Domingo.- The president of the Robert Kennedy Center for Human Rights yesterday said it’s an “error” to ignore the around one million Haitians who live in the Dominican Republic, and recommended monitoring and making transparent the process to regularize those undocumented immigrants.

Kerry Kennedy suggested that the country guarantee that the laws aren’t applied retroactively in the civil registry, with children of Haitian descendants born in Dominican territory. She also recommended work in the bateyes to help the Haitian immigrants who live in poverty.

Kennedy, in a press conference yesterday, said her delegation appreciates the Dominican government’s response on the problem of Haitian immigrants because every official with whom she met yesterday showed an interest to work with her institution.

However the human rights activist noted that she didn’t come to impose a solution to the Haitian immigration problem, because in her view the Dominican Republic can solve it. She said it’s an “error” to ignore the around one million Haitians who live in the country.

I say that same thing. Ms. Kennedy should put her theories to use in the good ol' U S of A, before preaching them to other nations. On the other hand it is time for Dominican Customs and other agencies to tighten their belts and start deporting the illegals, the very same way the illegal Dominicans are deported on a daily basis from other nations. Get them OUT!!!

Another know it all trying to make it our problem. Every country in the word is passing the buck on Haiti, why should we be the suckers? Ms. Kennedy how can a poor nation solve the issues of a poorer one? Another example of Americans shirking responsibility. Time to start up the Camionas!

To danny00-What Carlos is talking about is the deportation of undocumented and illegal Haitians. I am against people who break the law and if that means the deportation of illegal Dominicans as well, then so be it. Deportation is the risk some one takes when they cross the border to another country without permission. If they are able to get away with it, then they have achieved their goal. Otherwise, if caught, don't cry and scream discrimination, be ready, willing and able to accept the consequences. I just hope danny, that you do not condone immigration chaos, don't tell me that it is ok to do what ever the heck you want. I really hope that you don't believe it is alright for a few millions of people to invade another country without rules, law and order. Nevertheless, if we have to deport illegal Dominicans from the US, the numbers are so minute compared to illegal Haitians in the DR that your analogy is irrelevant.

Imagine that ! Kennedy talking blaa blaa and making recommendations about the illegals in the DR while ignoring the age old question of the U.S's own emigration problems. Illegal still means ILLEGAL.

IDEA....Maybe Kennedy can make a massive money donation of her own funds to assist Haiti.

Danny00,
If you don't mind me asking what nationality are you ? or are you A Native American ? America was not founded....It was stolen, does Manifest Destiny ring a bell if not, it should.

Afro-Americans were brought to America as stolen Human property / Salves does that make you or I a thief or Responsible for such actions, NO. Imagine that an Native asking members of the Mayflower "CAN I SEE YOUR GREEN CARD" Danny00 we all come from somewhere.

Question : How many American born have you seen doing low paying meager jobs in America w/no benefits, vacation or health plans ?

Here in Calif. we have almost the same problems. Many illegals put their hard earned money back into the Calif. economy. The thought of illegals, Drugs and weapons entering the U.S undetected, how about Weapons of mass destruction and or even Terrorist ? which is a National Security Problem. If the U.S wanted to really get tough they would target the Employers, after all the Illegals come for Employment.

Hire one American at lets just say minimum wage, plus benefits, vacation, D Insurance, Health Ins., Retirement plan, over time pay etc..etc..

VS.

An Illegal at half the pay with no benefits, can't complain hes Illegal.

In other words.....Why should an American born work flipping burgers at around $300.00 a week if lucky when he can make double that in a Day selling Drugs.

-She is disrespecting DR, history, and the current realities (there are Dominican living in worst conditions that the Haitian in the Bateyes).

-She is an instigator by EXAGGERATING TO THE WHOLE COUNTRY THE FEW EVIDENCES SHE SAW ABOUT THE BATEYES.

-She is not a certified judge to pass judgement to the treatment of foreigners (especially based on a two days visit).

-She is implanting her foreign model as to the economic, social, and political rights the illegal should get.

-She is distorting the facts: There are two million Haitian (NOT ONE MILLION) in DR.

-She is nowhere to be seen when ICE crack down houses, trailers, schools, hospitals and workplaces in the U.S.
This is not a "human rights" problem. This is a "human responsibility" problem.

-She did not see the different levels DR is being invaded from Haitian children in Santiago to pregnant Haitian women in STO DGO East!

The basic concept of noblesse oblige is unknown to middle class dominicans so that the new rich here are not very kind or generous to those other dominicans or haitians who have not achieved a decent income level..they prefer to jst purchase more material items to show off.

Its survival. Haitians are looking to live a longer life, better life, just like mexicans crossing in the US. It all comes back to the rich nations citizens (all of us) lack of understanding, that these people are poor because we wish to pay next to nothing for our products, we care more about saving a buck on sugar, then the welfare of the migrant who is picking the cane, or the accountability of the farmer. Who amoung us here in G-8 nations, will spend an extra dollar on fair trade products? We rather use that savings on a newer luxury car, or a bigger house.Increase our quality of life at home,If we as the wealthy people in the world want the market only for fair trade products, then producers of goods will have to abide by that system in order to sell their products, in essence paying the proper amount to farmer in HAITI and in the DR, passing a little wealth indirectly from the us(rich) to poor

Rich: Land of opportunity, prosperity & Land of the FREE. In America you work hard to own a piece of the American pie threw Education, self improvement & Home ownership. Like it or not the U.S has been a model for the World to follow.

I believe what has happened is....I'll repeat we've a Nation where "The wants out weigh the needs" "Me, Mine & I society" "More is never enough" Men are gauged on the amount of Possessions one owns, no more Virtues, Morals and self respect towards our fellow Man.

This generation is on the belief that Gov. owes all Americans equal entitlements "Distribution of wealth" threw Owning/Controlling Auto industry, major Loan institutions and Health care is the norm of the Day.

Gov. dependency mentality or GDM, that U.S Gov. has a right and a obligation to feed, Health and CONTROL all aspects of American Life up to include our very own FREEDOMS and every aspect of American life that we cherish.

History example:
In the mid 1800's the first example of U.S Gov. There is a difference between the middle class and the rich in the US. It is the understanding that home ownership is not the best way to increase wealth, almost all people who are wealthy from new money have sacrficed owning a home and used money that would pay a mortgage instead to invest in some sort of bussiness that they have a passion for and stick with it for many years intill it grows. If one wish to be wealthy by American standards, one must do the same.

FIND A PASSION, START A BUSSINESS, STICK WITH IT UNTILL IT GROWS (WHICH COULD TAKE MANY YEARS), SACRIFICE OWNING A HOME, AND A NICE CAR FOR A SOME YEARS TO OWN A BIG COMPANY AND MANY HOMES AND CHARITIES TO HELP THE ONES IN NEED

But there is a big difference between Rich & middle class, The latter finds loop holes in our Tax system. Personally I bought a Home as a HOME to call my own, not as an INVESTMENT.
New wealth People were able to purchase Homes years ago in the first place due to over pricing of Homes, Loans passed without proper income, low APR's with no cap variable interest rates, balloon payments, little or no $ down payments. It is a no wonder why so many foreclosures in American todate. Ever wonder of the 85 billion offered threw the STIMULUS to save Homes from Foreclosures....I do not know of a single person who was able to use that money to save their Home, not one.
Rent in California is more then that of a monthly mortgage payment minus the interest Tax write-off on your income Tax return.

Most among middle class and the poor fall into that trap of posessions (ie. house) before having the idea of set themselves up financially first. Purchasing a home before the wherewithall to support it then after fact, blame the gov't and greedy buss'nessman for taking advantage of them. That's why they arrest the johns, along with the hookers and the pimps. They are as much to blame. It was the homeowners ignorance and greed that got them into the mess in the first place.
Every one dollar one spends one must think about it for one second before he spends it. If one purchases a 200,000 dollar home, he must think for 200,000 seconds before purchasing it.
When the going get tough, the tough get going.
