Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- Dominican authorities Thursday arrested six Haitians who allegedly run a network which traffics children across the Haiti-Dominican border, military sources said.

The Cesfront Border Guard said three Haitians were caught in a wooded area in Dajabón province (northwest) transporting the children, from 4 to 8 years old.

The Cesfront said Joseph Dorsevil, Martha Jean Guise and Atúan Pierre were arrested while transporting 10 minors, whereas Tafón Simone Jean, Bartolo Antony Batispte and Milena Jean Pie were detained with 14 minors, from 2 to 13 years of age, who would allegedly be taken to the northern city Santiago.

According to the Cesfront Guise is a repeat offender whose biometric data appears in the files of the equipment the U.S. authorities installed in the border crossing at Dajabón.

Some of the detainees were handed over to the Haitian authorities for processing as fugitives, the source said.

According to military authorities the traffickers charge the minors’ parents high sums of money to transport their offspring across the border into Dominican Republic, with promises of schooling and work in houses of wealthy families, but the reality is that the children end up mostly in Santiago and Santo Domingo, where they beg in street corners, sleep in abandoned houses, empty lots and other unsafe places.

The minors say they came from the towns Ouanaminthe, Otout du Nord and Limonade, in Haiti’s north.

In the last 15 days the Cesfront has arrested 2,508 Haitians trying to sneak across the border.

Just fyi, I commented on these occurrences in 2006 and previously to that time; before the RD or US Gov had a clue... at that time (likely still today) they were hired as drug mules with the same destination (Santiago) where drugs would be held to "cool off" and the kids left in the streets to fend for themselves.

It is good to see this is on the Gov's radar some 3 years later... (better late than never). I agree these are the lowest of the low.

A very sad situation indeed

The promise of haiti ever becoming a prosperous nations goes out the window with every child that is sold into slevery by their own parents.

If you eat at some of the restaurants near the monumento in Santiago, when you are walking to your vehicle small hatian children come to you and beg. Or the stand next to your vehicle and tell you to give them something since they were "watching" your SUV. I can not imagine how many get raped on the streets... They do anything for $$$ It is very sad

Where is Sonia Pierre and her clan of priests???? Why blame us for everything that goes wrong in Haiti, when Haitias are the first ones to screw everything up??? Why doesn't the media follow throuh on this story or better yet do an episode of Nuria on this??? The world really needs to see the ills that afflict Haiti before blaming us. Haitians need to take responsability and care of themselves before any one else can take them into account.

Here is a little poem i wrote last nite while waiting for the LUZ to show up.

We kenw that the Haitian adults are abiding and assisting in the transport of Haitian minors from Haiti to DR! The Haitian are dumping their responsibilities to DR. This is a clear violation of Dominican sovereingty and to the Dominican society where we have to pay for the welfare load of these children that comes with them. These children are used to defame DR in front of the world under the excuse of explotation, prostitution, and social abandonment (no education, health services, etc.).

We can't be compassionate, nor humanists, nor pacifist, nor socialists with this problem. We must use force and a strong hand to stop this invasion! They are abusing our benevolence and kindness!

Sonia piere is la la land on vacation until any Dominican touch one of the kids begging on the street then is all about the race card after that. How about she start showing her figthing spirit in Santiago with all theses kids begging on the street and stop talking about racism and starting doing something constructives. Is funny how she never shows up when cesfront catch these evil ones.

I would not be surprised that the next thing they would come up with is to say that these minors are really Dominicans or Haitians born on Dominican soil.

Now that sound like a familiar story, something similar to what happened to African slaves over 200 years ago. It was precisely the very same Africans natives themselves who were the main culprits the ones who went into the jungle to capture and secure slaves to turn over and trade with European merchants. Yes it was their very own people who enabled and made possible the existence of the slave industry. In this case Haitians are repeating what their own ancestors did to them only this time it is just but a few centuries later.
