SANTO DOMINGO.- Haitian and Dominican intellectuals, politicians and personalities of finance will take part in a seminar on Haiti’s social-political, economic and environmental situation, organized by the Haitian Protestant Pastors Association, who reside in Dominican Republic.
The pastor Joel Prophete, who heads a Protestant Church in Higüey, coordinates the activity slated for August 29 and 30, journalists from the United States, Canada, Haiti, professors from an university of France, as well as political, business, unions and social leaders from different countries are expected to attend.
Haiti Electoral Board president Jacques Bernard, ex prime minister Marc Bazin; OPL Party president Edgar Leblanc; and Marie Carmel Austin, ex Education Minister during Jean Bertrand Aristide’s presidency have already confirmed their participation in the activity to be held in the Jaragua hotel.
The panels in the activity will deal with the ways through which Haiti’s economic and social stability can be restored, as well as the desertification which jeopardizes Haiti’s development.

This is an excellent step. Positive communication between Haitians and Dominicans is needed. Discussions should include actions that should be taken to solve the illegal immigration issue. In other words, what does Haiti need to do to provide employment for its poor on their own soil. Another issue that can be discussed is the discrimination that Haitians go through in the DR. One time I heard two Dominican business bankers say that they would not allow Haitians to open up a business in the DR. That is pretty scary. In the U.S., a lot of people do not like Mexicans but no one bothers them when they open up a bodega or any kind of business. Furthermore, there should be current Haitian and Dominican politicians and lawmakers involved in this meeting.

The vultures (carrion eaters) have already spoken, now it is the turn of Dominican Patriots!
First of all the comparison between the USA and it's Mexican problem and DR's Haitian problem are ridiculous!
As far as Haitians sitting down anywhere and discussing how to improve Haiti is welcome until they interfere in our sovereignty and our right to determine who can and cannot enter in the country
And as far as the Haitians in DR ,if it's so bad .go back to Haiti !
These are the only "mistreated and abused people" who kick and scream when being removed from the oppressor nation and who pay to be taken back to their "valley of miseries".
The demographic "peaceful invasion" cannot be permitted because it will destroy the Dominican Republic as we know it and set us back at least 100 years.
France,Canada and the US should assume the Haitian problem and leave us alone because we have more than enough to deal with without being invaded by people who have destroyed everything i

<<sigh>>, when will you ever understand that the DR is not, doesn't have to be (and perhaps will never be) like the US? And before you say "because it's the right thing to do" or some other similar nonsense, there are many other countries that are waaay more xenophobic than ours, even among your own industrialized club (the European Union and Japan being conpiscuous on this, heck, Greece is even bulldozing the living quarters of the undocumented inmigrants on their land, for God's sake!.), and I don't see you crying bloody murder with them. In fact, one could say that the DR have been too laid back with its migrational issue in comparison with the countries mentioned above. (cont..)

And all this despite the fact that they are all "yellow people". Besides, if the DR is only a land of slavery and death for the haitians in your eyes, why do they keep coming then to this land of suffering?

Go ahead, take personal conversations out of context, creating misinformation, misrepresenting what was actually said. What you did is a perfect example of how simple words can turn into gossip. You have no idea what the real conversation was about or what took place prior to the meeting between the two bankers for you to jump into any conclusion, so be careful what you say. On the high end, there are plenty of well to do and wealthy Haitian business people who have started, opened and transferred their businesses and initiated ventures in the DR because of a more favorable Dominican business climate. And what about all of the Haitian street peddlers and vendors you see all over the DR. I don't see anybody messing with them. They transact and do business as usual like anybody else. In the DR money has no color, race, creed, nationality and loyalty.

actually as usual Antonio you are wrong ,I wish 100% that they succeed because the enormous strain they place on my country would recede but knowing Haitians and Haitian history (not the fantastic tales of greatness Haitians are taught) make me very doubtful of any progress especially when most Haitian with half a brain have left long ago.
The problem is that for my country the current situation is unbearable and we are shouldering a large burden for others mistakes when we have more than enough our own issues so my interests do not lay with Haiti for that is an issue for people like you to solve and instead of dealing with Dominicans you should be dealing with Haitians to fix the problems in Haiti because we are definitely neither the cause nor the solution.

The only thing I will add is that we, the people of DR, must take the law into our own hands and use force to purge the Haitian out of DR. We must take their children and women, deny them social services, and dump them back to Anse Pistre or Ouanaminthe. We must then use kinetic force to evict the Haitian males out of our territories.
We can't wait for the government or the private sector or the military or the politician or the religious to do anything (they all support the illegal invasion). It is up to "us" to inflict pain and disconfort to the illegal. The time for being humanist, pacifist, socialist, and compasionist IS OVER! The invaders have abused our hospitality.
