SANTO DOMINGO.- Vice president Rafael Alburquerque said Thursday that the dwindling funds will not let the Government’s Social Cabinet expand the social subsidy programs to more poor homes this year and that there’s no plan to create a bond for diesel, as some commuter transport sectors demand.

"This year we had a trimmed and limited budget and has forced us to work with limitations, but we still managed to focus the cooking gas bond,” he said.

He said they understand and listen to the different sectors, but reiterated that any increase in the number of beneficiaries will be for next year because "there are no more funds."

The Vice president noted that the Solidarity Card benefits 800,000 Dominican families through Bonogas, and 481,000 of those get a food subsidy through its Comer es Primero (to eat is first) and another 208,000 get the scholastic incentive.

The Government has set aside RD$13 billion for those subsidies so far, said Social Subsidies (ADESS) director Van Elder Espinal, during the inauguration of the entity’s Access to Information Office.

I'd like to see an anti corruption unit funded by the forfeiture of seized money assets from our corrupt officials. 50% goes to refunding the anti corruption unit and the other 50% to subsidize the poor. If the anti corrution group does its job well it will quickly only need maybe 10-20% of what it collects and the rest could easily cover the national debt or help the truly poor and needy people of our country.

Stop wasting and stealing all our tax money and there will be plenty left for needed social projects.

There is no doubt that the Dominican population must adapt to the reality that money is scarce and the economy is weak and therefore, the subsidies will be affected negatively! SO DON'T FORCE THE GOVERNMENT TO ASK FOR MORE TAXES OR CUT PROGRAMS OR MORE DEBT!

Too much demand outstripping resources IS A SYMPTOM of DEMOGRAPHIC EXPLOSION! The poor take more in that what they put in!

The Church and the Government must slow down population growth through mandated controls on couple reproduction, controls on immigration, and allow unwanted death mechanisms to continue.

Let's award the Government officials the best OSCAR AWARD in the performance of " cheating, lying" winners.

Cut you salaries, confiscate the corruption money.........etc., there are so many ways can help poor people as mentioned by other comments in here., but the government never wants to do it., so....
for God Sake, the government deserve the best performance.

Good Point allumeuseGeneroso,
Lets start by having the church stop telling people that protected sex is a sin... We might not have so many 14 year old with babies ! If you cant fed yourself, dont make babies... And when will we have real child support laws, not laws that says pay what ever you can, when ever you can. Man might think twice about not using condoms.
Socialism does not work, the need is always greater. Teach people to be self sufficiant dont teach them how to accept handouts.

And there is a real problem with Illegals, 8 000 000 Domincans, 1 000 0000 Illegals ... that also puts a strain on DR econimics
