Santo Domingo.– World Vision continues to reach more families with life-saving aid, despite the logistical challenges still hampering Haiti’s quake-ravaged capital city. The agency’s staff in Haiti are increasingly concerned about the safety of children as they find more and more children separated from their parents.

World Vision’s Dominican Republic staff in the border town of Jimani are helping provide food, water, and medical care to hundreds of unaccompanied children who fled Port-au-Prince for the border, either alone or who became separated from parents along the way.

The organization is deeply concerned about the number of children who are leaving Port-au-Prince and walking to towns outside the city to find help.

“Because the quake struck during school hours, there are hundreds of children who simply have not found their parents,” said World Vision’s spokesperson Kate Nicholas. “Separated children are incredibly vulnerable at this time and need protection, food and water.”

As flights bringing emergency supplies into Port-au-Prince’s congested airport, World Vision staff are finding alternative routes for life-saving aid, including bringing supplies overland from airports and ports in the Dominican Republic.

And with good reason as this is only the beginning of what will make a desperate situation even worst . This is what I mean when I ask how in the world does this make the D.RS situation any more promising ? How many displaced Haitian children are already sleeping on card board boxes in the doorways of storefronts in Higuey and Santiago and how many more do you think will be fighting for a piece of sidewalk to lay thier heads on in the days, weeks and months ahead ? Oh yes, The Haitians will be forced to migrate elsewhere , but I dont believe many will take the African hand out and Uncle Obama surely isnt going to ship 2 million of them over to his place at Camp David until they recover , which leaves only one other available property line to cross . People , I believe we are about to witness the greatest mass exodus since Isreal left Egypt and the D.R which is already on life support is about to choke itself to death inspite of what its optomistic visionaries are dreaming about.

That's what people get for supporting the puppet gov't of Leonel Fernandez. Anyone with 1/2 a brain would have immediately closed the border and forced the Haitian government to accept aid on the Haitian side of the border only.

what happened in haiti last week could happen in santo domingo tomorrow. it is time for the dominican people to stop looking down their noses at the haisian people and realise that if such an earthquake happened here, we would not be far ahead of how the haitians are now. please show some compassion for human life and your fellow man. this article is about children ... innocent children who are suffering a trauma. if an earthquake hit here it could be your child tomorrow who has to go to haiti to look for shelter. there are no guarantees in life . show dominicans have a heart and stop to worry aboout yourselves for a while. there is a god and we need to fear him. dios cobra aqui no en el cielo.

when the tsunami hit indonesia in 2006 there was an influx of child molesters from other countries trying to get orphaned children. I hope the children of Haiti can somehow be protected. World Vision is totally correct to be worried. It will probably be alot worse than anyone will ever hear about.
