Taipei.- Taiwan president Ma Ying-jeou invited his Haiti par René Preval to meet in Dominican Republic to deal with Taiwanese aid to the devastated Caribbean country, reports EFE, quoting the island’s newspaper Taiwan News.
Ma made the announcement in San Francisco, where he made a stop on his trip to Honduras, where he’ll attend the inaugural of president elect Porfirio Lobo, and to the Dominican Republic, where he’ll donate dozens of tons of humanitarian aid to Haiti.
The Taiwanese president met in San Francisco with Raymond Burkhardt, president of the American Taiwan Institute, which manages Taipei’s relations with Washington, given the absence of diplomatic ties.
Shortly before takeoff around midnight from Taipei, Ma called his fourth Latin America tour "a celebration of the return of democracy" in Honduras and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Haiti, through Dominican Republic.

When he is done he will have 100,000,000 frequent flyer miles.
Meanwhile, we, the people paying for all these trips and our country, stayed mired in the 1990s.
We are Dominicans. we are the elite. WE ARE ENTITLED.

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by "We are Dominicans. we are the elite. WE ARE ENTITLED."? I like the phrase 'we are Dominicans,we are elite'
Might as well be. The DR has carried Haiti for decades. All the food they have been getting for decades is from DR. No other nation has given a damm about Haiti until this earthquake. As a matter of fact, it took this earthquake for Haiti to receive international aid, otherwise, it would have never have gotten any. The last time I flew over Haiti, it looked barren. I don't think anything grows in Haiti. I'm talking 90s. I believe that their only industry is major league baseballs and voodoo consultations to clients from around the glove. If I am wrong, please correct me. If any of you knows differently, I am willing to be educated. I am honestly not trying to throw Haiti under the bus by my comments. Haiti is declared the poorest nation in the western hemisphere for a reason, because it is and I believe it is counted amongst the the poor nations of the world. The US should have annexed it just to help them out, but there is no profit for the US like it was with PR.
The DR has not carried Haiti for decades. Do your research. The DR PROFITS heavily from Haiti's dysfunction. Haiti does not steal the food from DR, they buy it. The trade surplus with Haiti is $750million and was headed to a billion dollars US. Haiti does receive international aid for most of the budget because the productive capacity of the country had been criminally neglected for decades.Major league baseball left Haiti long ago. Agricultural production is minimal because of poor Haitian leadership and international dumping on the Haitian market. On the bright side, Haiti economy grew at 3% last year, which was among the highest in Latin America. The new government was actually inching the country forward. BTW, and this is going to shock you, Haiti is not the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Nicaragua is. Just thought I'd educate you.
