Dahabon, Dominican Republic.- Dominican and Haitian social organizations threaten to break the chains placed across the bridges linking Dajabón with the northwest Haiti town Wanament tomorrow Friday, claiming that they block transit and the delivery of products to the devastated nation.
In a emailed statement, the charity organization Border Solidarity said despite the Haitian authorities warning that “Marines” deployed at neaerby Fort Libertè are ready to confront them, they “have the chest to face the bullets which may be fired at them in the protest.”
The organization, part of the Jesuit Service for Migrants and Refugees said commerce and humanitarian aid through Dajabón have increased after the quake destroyed most of Haiti’s capital.
It said several Dajabón organizations which currently collect, store and ship humanitarian aid to ease the crisis in Port-au-Prince, Wanament, Cape Haitian and Gonaïves complain of unnecessary backups at Customs and when attempting to cross the old bridge over the Masacre river.
“If by 10 a.m. Friday, January 29 the new bridge isn’t open to carts and buyers, the Haitian people will break the chains across the bridge and the Dominicans will cut the wires placed on this side,” warned the priest Regino Martinez, of Border Solidarity in the Marién radio program
He said the dozens of large and small carts and trucks loaded with products for the Haitians are stranded on Henríquez street have created a “pandemonium” in the strip of just 200 meters between Wanament and Dajabón.
Martinez said it takes one hour to cross the border by motorbike, making it urgent to open the new bridge, that he connects with the north Haiti, “which should’ve been in operation a long time ago.”
“I’ve been trying to establish contact with the officials so they adopt the border security and Customs measures to let the Haitian carts and buyers cross on Mondays and Fridays, for what’s known as Dajabon’s bi-national market,” he said.

Our country is really something, how can a NGO threaten the sovereignty of a country guarding its border? There are other ways to get that gate open, not by by force, if they start shooting people who is to blame? They should start enforcing the law once and for all.
Pa'l carajo con eso.

Disorders cannot be tolerated on any side of the border.
I would like to see them doing something like that here at the San Ysidro border crossing, they will not live to tell the story....This is a terrorist act.

The agitator Jesuit priests doing what they always do, agitating the masses, and getting desperate.
The border guards know how to deal with trouble makers, and the vermin are just bluffing and full of air. The hot air bags, know not to tempt the bulldogs that are watching them like pork chops, and salivating for a chance to take a bite at them. Bring them on!

I don't think the gate and chains are going to hold. LF should go over to Haiti and talk to them. When LF talk people listen.

This is not about WAR DRUMS, this is about national pride, identity, and power strugle.
In 500+ years, what have they created and put together? Nothing, right!!!
Is that what you want? 500+ years of nothing. We already got plenty of our own ppl that do not understand what the past, present, and much less their future looks like?
And the fact, someone even thinks of uniting these two parts is an abomination to us DOMINICANS.
This is not about WAR DRUMS, this is about what's right? Dominicans for Dominicans, and for only those who are willing to bring positivism.
I know it's hard for some to understand, however after 500+ years we are this far, and if we keep working for a better future we'll get it.
Therefore, we should eliminate any threat at whatever cost!!

Que maldicion!!! Always a dam problem, keep the dam gates closed. A mi personalmente no hay quien me hable de abrir ningun puente linking Haiti and DR, why? Because you give them a hand and they take the arm causing chaos. If they got chest to take bullets, bullets they will receive. Wanting to do everything by force, se jodieron. The word MARINES should tell them somenthing, which is to take it easy. They want bullets, the Marines will gladly give it to them.

i agree that ngo's shouldnt interfere with borders. if there was a tragedy in Mexico no way would the border wall come down and people allowed in the US. DR only has so much resources people cant rush in draining them...i understand that the catholic church sees everyone as God's children and that is why the priest isnt caring about opening the borders...but its not pratical.
