Pedernales, Dominican Republic.- In an apparent attempt to keep Haitians from selling any type of food at the border, Armed Forces Minister Joaquin Feliz today paid a Haitian woman RD$2,500 (US$60) to take away the stands from where he sold fried foods and juices.
After the top military official paid the money, the Haitian woman left so quickly that reporters couldn’t get her name, visibly nervous the woman left disgruntled because she would no longer make a living at the place she’s had for several months.
The woman, who lives in the Haiti town Anse-A-Pitre, was later seen peering behind the iron gates that separate Haiti from the Dominican Republic, as military wouldn’t let journalists go across the border where the measures against the spread of choleras were being implanted.

The entry points between Haiti and the DR will reopen on Friday, October 29th, under strict supervision of the DR health ministry. I knew that closure wouldn't last for a week. There is too much money to be made at those entry points. On average a Dominican soldier makes a minimum of $208.33 USD per day at his post. I bet if Leonel closes the borders for a month, the army would bring him down like a rock.
