You do not know what you are talking about so dont talk unless you really know what you are saying. You see a little tv and think that because you hear it from other latinos it is the truth. Do a little F----king research will you please before you talk out you but.
67% of all crime along the border of the us and mexico is by illegals this is fact and you cannot argue fact . In the Dom Rep 90% of crime is by its own people .
From: Dominican Republic
Wrong logical ,! your comment is more baised than it is factual . The same thing was said when Castro allowed the Morial exodus of about 100,000 Cubans in the 80s . The ''spic '' haters will still say that Maimi got all the degenerates from the Havana prison system , but the truth is that only about 20% of the sankys came on them first rafts . Just like the Cubans , you cant blame the Haitians for wanting to survive by going to a place that offrers them a chance to eat maybe 3 times a week instead of one .

TheTruth, or TheSoCalledTruth, you are perfect example of why most people cant have a decent discussion with right-wingers such as yourself. Right-wingers rely on opinions and not facts when making their idiotic statements. Republicans are the BIGGEST hipocrites of them all when it comes to illegal immigration in the U.S. and you have perfect examples such as Lindsey Graham, flip-flopper John McCain and even your former poster boy Dubya. Lindsey Graham with his "pathway to citizenship/assimilation" program for illegal immigrants & John McCain with his flip-flopping on border security/border wall issues.Dubya didn't propose any laws that would persecute employers that hired illegals, he was more concerned with pushing through temporary worker visas. What has happened when those work visas expired? Of course, many of those illegals stayed here illegally versus returning to their home countries. Republicans with their "pro business" stance turn a blind-eye to employers who hire illegals.

@heartbeat: We can certainly blame illegal Haitians for trying to survive at the expense of increasing the risk for diseases and/or infections because of lack of simple hygiene. We can blame illegal Haitians for wanting to stay by force illegally when we have plenty destitute of our own. We can blame illegal Haitians for crimes that they do commit (im not saying all commit crimes by the way before you mouth off). Actually, we can blame illegal Haitians for all their wrongdoings if they are in fact doing them. Dominican Republic is a third world country and we cannot afford to absorb the illegal citizens of another third world country whose in much worse shape than ours for the sake of being humanitarian all the time. We've done enough as it is with allowing illegal Haitians to attend schools, receive healthcare, providing aid and even allowed to work and then tolerate Haitians trying to play "the victim in DR" card with the international community.

It was a Republican Abe Lincoln who freed the slaves and the dems today keep minorities in slavery believing that they need governmnet to be happy and solve problems not freedom to build a business and work hard. TheSoCalledTruth you didnt address anything that I said, you said you're ready for facts; I provided you with several facts in my previous post that you simply just ignored. The real truth is that Republicans have never actively persecuted employers who hire illegal immigrants. The minute that issue is addressed you will see a decrease in illegal immigration or at the very least discourage it. Far from being part of the solution Republicans are also part of the problem. I'm not talking about being able to keep your money from your hard work and not giving people handouts. I'm talking about business owners being cheap bastards that hire illegal immigrants to avoid having to pay Americans the wages and benefits they deserve and then have the audacity to complain about illegal immigration. THAT'S what I'm talking about.

Unfortunately, if the Dominican Republic tries to enforce its borders and waters, then of course the Dominicans are being unfair, inhumane, and racist - Which of course is a load of hypocritical HORSESHIT.
Regardless of where WAGE deflation takes place due to illegal immigration, it's without a doubt oppression and injustice for all parties involved because illegal immigration can only benefit the wealthy elitists for the disposing and receiving Countries. True , the government has done and is doing nothing to prevent the spread of the Haitian invasion but why ? as they are the ones directly responsible for shutting the gate and guarding it and like it or not , Its too late to send 3 million of them back with the multitudes that are jumping the fence as we post nor is Leo likely to do anything about it in the future . The Haitians are moving backwards, at the same time dragging us into there abyss of despair, hunger, environmental destruction, illiteracy and many other ills i will not mention. The laundry list is just too long. A civil war will happen soon, if things don't change in Haiti. The D.R. is carrying a heavy load of sins, not responsible for. Are you serious???? That's what you Haitians want. It can't happen and there are Dominicans who will not allow that. No one has the right to be somewhere ILLEGAL. There are three million Haitians in DR and it's NOT to late to send them back.
The foreign powers have an agenda on the island and Haitians are spearheading the idea of unification. From the outset Haitians have always wanted a unification that's why the Dominican Republic was created to oppose such union.
That's why there are two nations on one island because Dominicans fought for there independence from Haiti. We are two distinct people with distinct cultures. We share obvious similarities but we are different people.
Build Haiti. All these Haitians with a false sense of pride. You need to build your country and ask for international help. Stop the discrimination against Haitians and unify.

wow heres my 2 cents breaking the law is breaking the law. situations are sad but none the less.i can see that every one agrees there is a problem. the real problem is the reason that causes a person to enter another country ileagaly. once that problem is adressed the problem should be solved. i find most problems can easaly be solved but the people that set out to solve them are complicated.and that is the biggest problem of all. OH WELL just my opinion and 2 cents, but thats what these post are for

What compassion are you talking about?
You want the DR to accept 2 million ILLEGAL Haitians out of compassion???
You are CRAZY. No other country in the world would do that.
You call Dominicans racists for wanting to gain control of its borders and defend the nation from a failed state next door. At least Puerto Rico, the USA, EU does not share a border with the DR like Haiti does.
The situation is more complicated because we share an island. Borders need to be enforced and deportations need to happen like it does everywhere else in the world. Poor or not, that is the way its done everywhere else. Your race card is dispicable, seems like you have a complex.
Sovereignty has nothing to do with race. If the tables were turned, I'm sure Haitians would be upset and deporting Dominicans.
20,000 Dominicans vs. 2.5 million Haitians. Can't compare apples to oranges. The real problem is Haiti and Haitians are not doing anything to change it as you eloquently explained above.

i notice that you do not make any mention of having this hard earned money, to which you so wistfully refer, ending up in the hands of Wall Street tycoons. i guess that does not bother you quite as much as when it is directed to a destitute mother of 3 kids. but, give it to some looter and raider from Lehman Brothers, and all is well with the world.. i know your type....

haitians should create their own haitian news website and blog overthere and stop coming here. They should waste their energy rebuilding haiti and stop coming to DR. haitians should stop forcing their way to my country, we are all getting sick of them. I wish there was a way to seperate the island and not deal with these animals.

Trini,
You say that you're part Haitian. How did your Haitian side get to Trinidad and Tobago? Or are you Haitian on both sides and born in Trinidad and Tobago?
Also, while I understand that we Dominicans have many fellow Dominicans living in other parts of the world, Puerto Rico you mention. Has it ever occurred to you that given our Colonial past as Spanish Colonies and having families with multiple Spanish speaking nations, that these facts may just have something to do with our dispersal? Dominicans and Puerto Ricans have had a long pre-colonial relationship. The Great Puerto Rican Betances father was from the DR.
Furthermore, I believe that almost 100 years ago, before the advent of the Oil based world economy, many black Caribbeans made their living working part of the year in the sugar cane fields, including those in the Dominican Republic! In fact, many of our English surname Dominicans from the south, Duncan, Bell, etc., are descendants of these workers.

While it's true that some folks here get antsy and say things that are not nice to the ears and may hurt peoples feelings, sometimes even racists things, it should not dismiss the difficult question before us: What is to be done with Haiti?
Certainly many on this site do not like what is happening today, nor the on going failure of that State and Nation to get its act together. And the Dominican Republic is getting a deflationary wage benefit that helps the rich and the developers at the expense of the Dominican working class, especially the poorer Dominicans who are forced into a losing battle against far cheaper Haitian labor input. The DR actually may be sacrificing developing a domestic middle class because of this process. This was the opinion of a French economist early this year.
I for one just want to see the Haitian ship finally leave the dock. Haiti can only be saved by her people. And the DR can not ever substitute for that lack of historical reconciliation.

Haitians defecating in the streets??? What else is new? Who doesn't know that?!!
"He also said a Haitian tried to rape a nine year old girl but when her relatives and other neighbors tried to expel him, he was protected by compatriots carrying guns.”......I'll say wait until they outnumber us!!!!
The Dominican people and specifically The Cibaenos de PURA CEPA must do and will do what needs to be done, enough is enough, and if the government is incompetent to protect us we must take the matter ourselves.... pa'lante Cibaenos only Cibaenos can do the task!!

Regardless of what the 'problem' is, violence, especially the community 'vigilante' brand will only cause more problems, and I don't understand why people can't see that. The comment (the very first one I believe) by 'matador' "Hang them all, get those criminal out of our community." is disturbing. Its very sad to see how some people can feel so much hate for Haitians 'in general' for trying to do the EXACT SAME thing Dominicans go the US to do - live a better life. If a Haitian tries to rape a 9 year old girl, than yes by all means he should be punished severely, but realistically not EVERY Haitian is like that! Furthermore, the biggest 'rape' of all is the Dominican Government raping its OWN people with the rampant corruption. The Gov. encourages delicuencia because many Haitian/Dominicans can't get any documentation to even ATTEMPT to try and obtain a 'decent' job. And as mentioned above, if the shoe was on the other foot, people would want to be shown patience and mercy.
From: United States
As far as the question "What is to be done with Haiti?" - Who knows...its a VERY complicated, multi-layered, socio-politically saturated issue. Its much like the immigration issue of the US with Mexico (and other places). But I do know what should NOT be done. Haitians should not be treated as garbage to be discarded. And they should be given more support by the International community AND the Dominican Government. Some complain about Haitians being a burden or being illegal or doing this and that, but if a Dominican can come to the US illegally and try to improve his lot in life, why can't a Haitian? Is a Haitians blood any less valuable? (I bet some people will actually have to think about the question first) I realize that the US can support more people than the Dominican Republic can. But again it goes back to the Government. How many illegal Haitians have come into the Country by 'buscones', or with the 'aid' of a greedy CESFRONT guard looking for extra cash to buy a BB??
From: United States
At any rate hate, discrimination and violence will NOT WORK. So everyone out there insulting Haitians calling them animals and savages and that they should be hung etc etc, are actually inflaming the problem even more. Think about it -- WHEN IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD HAS HATE, DISCRIMINATION AND VIOLENCE EVER........EVER FIXED A SOCIAL PROBLEM??? NEVER, EVER, EVER, NEVER, EVER! Period. I'm pretty sure Haitians WANT to be in their own Country, they have a culture, a history, self-pride etc. But as we all know they are also dealing with living in a virtual failed state. There was extreme poverty even BEFORE the floods wiped out the crops and BEFORE the Earthquake. It takes time and money to get things even half way decent. Is it the Dominican Gov. 'responsibility' to foster every Haitian?? No. But being hateful and discriminating will ONLY cause more problems. Removing corruption will allow ANY individual Haitian or Dominican to be brought to justice for wrongdoing.

Pretty words Bernard, but you live in a fantasy land. It is not a handful of Haitians in DR it is over 1.5 million mostly ILLEGAL and with Dominicans already getting screwed by our government and Haitians making it worse you are a dreamer if you think people will not react. We have been predicting a worsening situation for several years because you are not just entering our country you are INVADING ,peacefully for now but no country should have to support over 15% of a foreign population especially a poor country like mine. True Haitians need help but ask the rich nations to help you or actually do some work yourself to fix your problems .
My country needs to deport between 80 and 90 % of the Haitian illegals as is our sovereign right and our best interests for we did not create the mess in Haiti nor can we fix it. The only Haitians that should be in DR are those who enter with our PERMISSION and have legal documentation ,otherwise they should be picked up and dropped off in Haiti.

Its supposedly MORE than 1.5 Million actually, so I am very aware that we are not just talking about a few people. Immigration, 'invading' call it what you like, but that happens in EVERY country where nearby countries are struggling. If you call people moving to another place in order to better there lot in life 'invading' then you could also say that New York, Connecticut, Boston, and Miami among others have been 'invaded' by Dominicans. But its not an invasion, its simply people trying to live a better quality of life. Why can't Haitians do the same?? The problem is simply that Haitians are viewed as inferiors. They can be just as productive. No its not the 'fault' of the Dominican Republic, but the Dominican Government is NOT completely 'innocent' either. Who makes up the cheap labor force of sugar cane cutters and surplus manual labor?? Haitians (for the most part) - so principally speaking - If you ride on another persons back, at least let them go where they want.

Bernard ,you attempt to appear intelligent but you fail in your analysis for comparing a Dominican entering the US over 95% LEGAL I may add to and representing an almost microscopic percentage of the US population to a massive entry by Haitians approaching 20% over 95% ILLEGAL is totally moronic! Add to that the fact that Dominicans never Dominated ,invaded multiple times and raped ,looted and burned the US and you have two TOTALLY different situations.

Do you really think Dominicans don't want to truely help the Haitian people. It is to our benefit and best interests to see a prosperous Haiti. But what you and people like yourself want are unreasonable demands to forceably impose yourself upon us. We have done our part and will continue to help Haiti as much as we possibly can, but do not expect anymore then what we have already done and can deliver. I just want to make a comment on this topic. I grew up in the United States and currently live in my native Dominican Republic. While I was a young boy and did not know any better I was a democrat all the way just because mom and dad said that was best for latinos in general. Once I started opening my eyes and learning for myself I realized that yes there some possitive points democrats make but there are possitive points republicans make. I will not go against a republican just because he/she is a republican. I must hear them out first as we shall all learn to do. With regards to illegal immigration in the USA, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico or anywhere else in the world, it is wrong! Plain and simple. Every country has the right to deport illegal immigrants from their land no matter what nationality you are, and I say this and stick to it even if it affects my own nationality because I am standing for the right thing!
LINCHING TIME!!!!!!
HANGEM HIGH !!!!!!!! For believing they have rights!!!!
You bunch of hippocrates/democrats are all keeping the USA a dumping ground for uneducated unskilled illegals just like the haitian into the Dom Rep. Stay where you are and make a change so your future will be better, dont run away and give up!
dominicans do not want the haitians in their country but boy oh boy dont say close the borders too loud in the USA in front of any democrat latinos !
Come on let the haitians stay in the Dom Rep all they want is a better life , sound familiar ?
On the other hand, at least most of the Mexicans coming to the US are civil and that cannot be said for most Haitians going into DR.
Most of the Mexican coming to the US are civil and that cannot be said for most Haitians going into DR

Do you know how to read? I said "most" Mexicans and not all. Of course, there will be instances like the one you just mentioned. It doesn't take a genius to know there will be bad examples. So who's making the "idiotic comments" here?
67% of all crime along the border of the us and mexico is by illegals this is fact and you cannot argue fact . In the Dom Rep 90% of crime is by its own people .
I have never said illegals do not commit crime. So you are arguing against an argument I have not made.
On the other hand, your conclusion is that Haitians are more civil than Mexicans? Is that your conclusion? Just from those statistics or "fact".
Can anyone attack an argument without attacking the poster? And why do people get so upset? To the point of cursing at others. Why are people so emotionally invested in these posts? It is very pathetic but funny.........
I simply made a comparison between the Haitian and Mexican immigrants.
Capitalism in reverse you might say . If we cant ship the jobs over seas for cheap labor and tax exempt corporations , will let the cheap labor come over here and assume no liablity for them ??? No unemployment benefits , no workmans comp , no health insurance and its all under the table , but the best part is that when they f**k up , you send them back where they came from and get a new one .
If you wish to talk facts I am ready
It became a bad thing when all the uneducated unemployed people in the USA were tricked By the Dems , who by the way wanted to keep slavery, into thinking that is was Business who is the reason for their poverty and together if you vote for me I will make them give you your fair share by doing nothing but keeping me in power vote for a dem and you will get free stuff. free stuff is not free, someone has to pay and guess who pays it el stupido
It was a Republican Abe Lincoln who freed the slaves and the dems today keep minorities in slavery believing that they need governmnet to be happy and solve problems not freedom to build a business and work hard. Why didnt you address these facts:
Lindsey Graham's pathway to citizenship program for illegals

Dubya's temporary worker visa program
Employers/Business owners hiring illegal immigrants to avoid paying American citiziens and/or legal residents the wages and benefits they are entitled to.
Address those obvious facts and then we'll be a the same level.

I can tout "WE Dominicans" because I am Dominican and I know that most of my fellow Dominicans share my sentiment.
You will not catch me at any Starbucks anytime soon because I don't drink coffee and if I did, I would probably go to Dunkin Donuts.
Right-wingers or Right-wingers claiming to be they're Independent like our boy TheTruth here always give me the opportunity to eat them for lunch because they make their comments based on opinions not facts and when provided with evidence they resort to going off topic, calling people "lefties". They bring it on to themselves, I mean I'd be embarrassed to be associated with the party of Dubya, Sarah Palin, Haley Barbour, Carl Palladino, Rick Perry, etc., too but I wouldn't deny it or claim to be "in the middle"
The Dominican Republic has been baited into a no win situation due to its location, imagine being the only Caribbean nation with no rights to enforce the concurrent power to protect its own waters and borders.
However, I do understand that, if we were wearing the other shoe, we would follow in the illegal Haitians unfortunate footsteps. I know many will not like this post. It is however logical.
You started it with your republlcan comment BS and defining who I am without knowing who I am.
My point of stating what I do is to show you leftist socialist that I can give without being told to do so and I bet you do not give anything because you do not produce anything because you are a consumer like all the illegal immigrants who do not produce , only take and take and take until all I have to give has been taken away and there is nothing left to give. Everthing I have said has everything to do with immigration. If everywhere was doing the right thing and not be liberal socialist like you , then no one would have to leave their homeland. But for the record and as someone who spends as much time as I do in the D.R , may I say that apart from the humanitarian aspect , I hate the situation as much as you . Weve been down this path too many times already people but were pissing into a tornado as usual .
The answer , and it may just be my opinion , is because the secret agenda of the foriegn powers that be is unification of Hispanola ..Never say never my friends , because imagine the scenario if an 8.5 were to rock santiago one day . Then see how many Dominicans would be running to the border for Uncle Willys help .

I'm glad you are back on here. I miss your contributions to the site. Hope all has been well.
Our Dominican diaspora is very well connected to the Dominican Republic. We are not an absent diaspora that only contributions via remittances. We have businesses, homes, involved in politics, and frequently visit the DR. The Dominican diaspora is well informed on the happenings in the DR and contribute significantly to the well being of the nation. Don't mistake not living in DR as not making difference or as a disconnect from Dominican society. Our diaspora is far from disconnected!!!!
I've come to realized posting here is not going to change anything, this people are looking for a better life, and if the government doesn't do anything about their illegal activities there's not much we can do from behind our keyboard.
If the community wants to take matters into their own hands, is probably out of frustration of our incapable government.
You want the DR to accept 2 million ILLEGAL Haitians out of compassion???

You call Dominicans racists for wanting to gain control of its borders and defend the nation from a failed state next door. At least Puerto Rico, the USA, EU does not share a border with the DR like Haiti does.

i notice that you do not make any mention of having this hard earned money, to which you so wistfully refer, ending up in the hands of Wall Street tycoons. i guess that does not bother you quite as much as when it is directed to a destitute mother of 3 kids. but, give it to some looter and raider from Lehman Brothers, and all is well with the world.. i know your type....
My country needs to deport between 80 and 90 % of the Haitian illegals as is our sovereign right and our best interests for we did not create the mess in Haiti nor can we fix it. The only Haitians that should be in DR are those who enter with our PERMISSION and have legal documentation ,otherwise they should be picked up and dropped off in Haiti.
situations "but the Dominican Government is NOT completely 'innocent' either"
ME "Dominicans already getting screwed by our government and Haitians making it worse"
Add to that the fact that Dominicans never Dominated ,invaded multiple times and raped ,looted and burned the US and you have two TOTALLY different situations.
.Please your problem is not OUR problem (well you want to make it ours) so please GTF out of our territory!
You need to understand there is only one Jesus Christ and few Mother Teresa, but enough is enough.
