SANTO DOMINGO. - The actress Angelina Jolie, today hailed the Government and the Dominican people’s generosity and commitment with the needs in Haiti, especially the first responders.
Jolie, the United Nations good will ambassador spoke prior to departing from Santo Domingo for the United States Thursday morning, after her busy agenda including a visit to the Darío Contreras hospital, where she comforted convalescent Haitian children and women. “It moved me and impressed me greatly to see the attention given by Dominican doctors and nurses, and the generosity of the local society, taking care of patients and their families once registered and in the recovery phase.”
During her visit the UN diplomat also met with and thanked president Leonel Fernandez in the National Palace, for heading the Dominican humanitarian effort. “I’m grateful for the fast Dominican humanitarian response to the emergency and I wish this sentiment of solidarity continues with Haiti’s tragedy.”
“It’s evident that there are vulnerable Haitians in the Dominican Republic, victims of the earthquake, who’ll continue needing this solidarity," Jolie said.

I worked at MTV for 2 years and the first project i worked on featured Anjelina Jolie and ecomomist Dr. Jeffrey Sacks of the UN Millenium Development Project. The show highlighted the plight of many in Africa who live under extreme poverty conditions, and how simple and affordable farmin tecniques and disease preventive measures could completely turn things around for the better.
During my time there i worked with many more celebrities and projects featuring similar situations around the world and i can tell you Angelina Jolie is one of the only true benevolent and altruistic people i worked with. almost every one else who seem to be doing some humantarian effort always had something to gain from the exposure. Most always had an album, a movie or something like that about to be release. But not Angelina, she had nothing to gain. the only other celebrities i worked with who share similar character to Angelina's in this regard were Bono and Shakira.

Yes it is sad it took a disaster of this kind to bring the world's attention to Haiti and i really feel for the Hatian people. But there are over one BILLION people all over the world living under extreme poverty or less than $1 a day. Over two billion live on $2 or less a day. As a Goodwill Embasador to the UN a great part of Angelina Jolie's job is to bring to light the plight of these people. She does this without asking nothing in return. I don't know if she worked in Haiti in the past or not, but i do know she's worked all over the world with people just as bad or worst than the people of Haiti.

(3) Although the DR bourgeoisie is corrupt, it is a lot less corrupt than the US bourgeoisie, the DR's main competitor for the reconstruction contracts and money.
This competition between DR and USA is over the reconstruction aid that comes mainly from North America, Europe and some developed Asian countries. Latin America aid is coming through ALBA and UNSUR. The DR already got a good chunk of Latin America sowed up, although pro-imperialist swine of DR origin wants the DR turn over the Latin American aid to the US imperialists.

Most of money is not from imperialist swine or from USA. DR is not imperialist country but like most others, it has pro-imperialist swine. Corrupt US imperialists are not better than pro-imperialist Haitian swine. I have often mentioned Cuban and Venezuelan bucks, in terms of concrete aid. For example, Venezuela sent 225,000 barrels of oil. Today, a barrel in NYC sells for $74; so multiply $74 X 225,000 to get the world market value. Another example, Cuba sent 1000 doctors. The lowest compensated first- year doctors in USA makes about $130,000: so multiply 1000 X $130,000 to get world market value of Cuban doctor services in Haiti.
