The meeting in the National Palace.
Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez met yesterday with the head of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO), Irina Bokova, to coordinate aid and cooperation programs for the country and for Haiti as well.
"We have discussed with the President questions of Haiti’s reconstruction and Dominican Republic’s role, and also education higher projects and others to benefit both nations," Bokova told journalists after the meeting.
She said Fernandez invited her to participate in the Summit for Haiti to be held in Dominican Republic on June 2.
The UNESCO director said the organization is strongly involved in the recovery of Haiti’s educative system, in technical training; as well as to safeguard its cultural assets to prevent their removal from the country.

Actually, there is a PLD guy out in front of the Presidential Palace who's job it is to sell photo ops with LF. He's the guy who walks up to people and says, in a low voice, "Psst, hey buddy, wanna get your picture taken with a real live president? 2000 pesos, and you get your picture taken, 4000 pesos and you get a private audience, and 6000 pesos gets you a celebratory lunch with r. segurra." Get it now while you can, Vargas' group will charge a lot more.

It would be closer to the truth to say Bokova and LF are trying to get an opportunity to coordinate aid and programs. On Wed., Obama ordered Preval, during the latter's White House visit, not to spend a dime of UN aid money unless the dime comes thur a US imperialist-dominated "single trust fund."
The mass of US bourgeoisie is too corrupt and venal to administer the fund.
LF's choices are either seek a voice in the corrupt US imperialist-dominated trust fund or urge big donors to bypass the corrupt trust fund.
LF's moves before and after Wed. suggest that he will urge big donors at the March 16-17 meeting in Santo Domingo to bypass the corrupt trust fund dominated by US thieves.
But in order to get a big donations, LF must assure donors they will have more oversight over their money than if it were in corrupt US imperial hands.

Bokova may be a sneaky agent of US imperialists whose mission is help the US imperialists steal non-UN aid, especially funds in the field of education which is one UNESCO's specializations. She may want to coordinate non-UN reconstruction funds, like the aid from the ALBA and UNASUR countries. LF has already got a good chunk of this non-UN aid which so far amounts in total to about $500M.
I don't know how much of the $500M will flow thur the DR.
The ALBA and UNASUR reconstruction funds will be coordinated by Preval, LF, Hugo, Raul, Lula, and Correa, not US imperialist thieves, the UN, UNESCO, or venal NGOs.
UNESCO will for sure get most of the UN education funds and then blow the money.
Cuba should get a good chunk of the UN education money, given its worldwide experience and success with literacy programs which UNESCO itself has recognized and honored as exemplary. But the vile and venal US imperialists will never let this happen, at least with UN money..
