Santo Domingo. - President Leonel Fernandez yesterday called for a strategic plan with concrete actions to rebuild Haiti after the quake which leveled its capital, since in his view the time has come to go beyond words to ease that nation’s calamity.
The chief executive said Dominican Republic will establish a commitment with the international community with concrete and specific initiatives in each area to help accomplish that objective.
Fernandez, speaking in the 3rd Dominican-Haitian Global Forum, with the topic “For the Preservation of Haiti’s Culture and Cultural Patrimony” held yesterday in the Global Foundation, said the plans to achieve those objectives will be established in the Summit of the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean, to be held in Madrid May 18 and 19.
The Head of State said the Forum will lead to the shaping into concrete facts what arises from those gatherings and the ability to monitor what has been or hasn’t been reached.

Apparently LF turns his head the other way, when the unstoppable avalanche of illegal Haitians, keep their constant and daily march and "friendly invasion" into Dominican territory.
Over a month ago March 12, the census was an estimate 200,000 illegals that had crossed the border, that is an average of 100,000 illegals per month, and that includes mostly Haitians but other nationalities as well, taking advantage of "Dominican Hospitality".
The complex of Guacanagarix of bending over and being PC or "sabrosones" to all foreigners and let them stay in DR, get jobs, not pay taxes, and further strain our already fragile infrastructure, does not forecast a rosy picture for the future of our country.
The porous border has to be sealed and managed, and entry into our territory has to be controlled as other countries normally do, otherwise this aggressive trespassing by desperate individuals, in the end, will sooner rather than later destroy our nation.

"Haiti needs less talk, more action, Dominican President says" LOL that's a funny quote because is exactly what we need in DR too Mr. Leonel.
How about you stay in Haiti and allow us to select another president because as it stands now it seems as if we simply don't have one anymore.

Generoso,
I think all this is just LF's attempt with Haitian support to build up the coming May Conference. It's no secret that the Haitian situation is dreadful and that we in DR bear the brunt of her tragic experience. There are a number of important projects in the pipeline and LF is trying to expedite the process, as well he should. He clearly understands that his position is highly compromised should the process break down, and the flow of Haitians continue at historically unprecedented numbers. I doubt he hasn't expressed this to the US and other international entities that are the real movers and shakers behind the attempt to resuscitate the Haitian State and Nation.

The laissez faire DR policy on Haitian immigration is the straw that will break the camel's back. As someone wrote " the DR has a legitimate interest or stake in allocation and expenditure of the $2.7B of UN Haitian reconstruction funds".
Our national security is at risk, and Dominicans are being distracted by an orchestrated effort of the international community, mainly the USA, Canada and France, that have nightmares of all those Haitians making boats and hitting their shores.
Dominicans have an important stake in the future of Haiti and its reconstruction, not the thousands of blood sucking NGO's that are like bees to honey with the donated funds, and funnel most of the dollars on "administrative" expenses.
The type for strong and assertive leadership has come, both Haiti and DR are longing for a savior, and LF has to prove that he can walk the talk, and not just lecture, like a university professor.

This should end any / all misunderstanding.
Why don't the Dominican Government under LF do the human / right thing like help all the illigal Haitians in the DR with transpotation and send them to Cuba and Venezuela for free food, education, housing and world class medical attencion that way they'll get a good taste of the great life........also it would give Castro and Hugo-a-go-go 100% bonafide bragging rights.
