Toronto.– Canada has paid of its share of Haiti's debt to two international organizations and now, Prime Minister Stephen Harper is hoping other G20 leaders will follow.

"Two weeks after the tragic earthquake in Haiti, Canada called for the full cancellation of the debt owed by Haiti to international organizations like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund,” Harper said in a statement on Friday.

About US$33 million went to the Inter-American Development Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. Haiti's total debt is just over $825 million.

Haiti was struck by a massive earthquake near Port-au-Prince on January 12. The 7.0 quake left more than 230,000 people dead and millions more homeless.

The following is copied from active forum thread, and I wanted to share it with broader audience:

""This is for all socio-communist thinkers:

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.
5. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.""

I see behind the DT class clown mask hide a thinking man. Your post on this subject is right on point, it truly shows your knowledge about the tragedy that is my beloved Haiti. Thinks for bringing the Robert Johnson (BET) situation to my attention the other day.

What Canada should do is allow Haitians to migrate to Canada, no visa required or run the country for the them, since they can not run their own country.

pkaide,
Then the US will have an immigration problem on the north and south border... Allowing the people of Haiti to leave is not the answer... Only hard work and good people on the top will help Haiti rise... Remember, the answer is not to leave
