Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez will fly to Germany on Sunday to bolster the Berlin-Santo Domingo bilateral relations, revealed the European nation’s ambassador Christian Germann.

The diplomat signed an agreement via which Germany donated 40,000 euros to the Rural and Suburban Electrification Unit (UERS) to pay for the power supply for rural schools in southern San Jose de Ocoa and Azua provinces.

Germany has been among the most generous donors to the country, with the North Yaque Upper Basin Protection Project (Procaryn) among the most ambitious.

UERS director Thelma Eusebio said the funds will pay for solar panels in the grade schools of the villages Mahoma and La Colonia, as well as in Rancho del Pino, La China, Arroyo Colorado and Ranchería, in Azua.

She said those provinces were chosen because around 20 percent of the homes in San Jose, or 5,000 families don’t have electricity, a figure which is 10 percent (3,300 homes) in Azua. “It’s the second time Germany’s Embassy makes a donation for this purpose and with which we expect to help in community development and improve education.”

Eusebio added that the electrification works will begin immediately and each project is expected to be ready in three months.

The private jet and shopping spree will cost more than the donation.
Leonel is trying to get his wife (Margarit del Cerdo) in front of everybody.

Generosity?

Whoever gives DR more free money, then it is Generosity.

Why can't try to be independent? Yes, it is hard, but the much harder part is the "mind of corruption embed into the people mind."

Germany is beautiful this time of year, plus there are a couple of Haute Couture fashion shows that "LA GORDA" Margarita cannot miss. She does need a few new items for her wardrobe. After all, Imelda Marcos had over 300 pair of new (never worn shoes) in her closet once (a few years ago). It is called reciprocity, Germany donates 40K euros and LF spends 40K euros in a shopping spree in Munich.

The cost of renting a jet that Leonel use's is $5,000. US per hour. plus.
5 hours one way $25,000.
5 hours back $25,000.
Hotel, security shopping spree for Margarita del Cerdo $25,000.

The cost to taxpayers is $75,000. for a 30,000 donation.

No wonder the DR is bankrupt.

Jim, cost of the GV is a bit more @$7500/hr, plus the crew's per diem and expenses. Add 4-5 hours to that total to get the plane to/from SDQ/MDSI (san isidro air base).

Leo takes a trip to Germany, so that he can collect his cut. If you look beyond the smoke, germany is doing this because its tired of getting dum and corrupt dominicans. Give the tree nutriants and reap the benefits of its fruits. Leo would never now , he makes sure the saplings don't grow .

Leo lack the consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations and outcomes and doesn't have a intuitive sense of honesty and truthfulness in regard to the motivations for his actions.

What I have notice with our President is, when ever one of his butt buddies get into trouble, he takes a flight to the next country that donates, not realizing that when these good deeds are done, its because he can't manage to do it himself as a president.

Leo, make a phone call and thank them, you are spending to much on nothing. You would always be that president THAT COULDN'T and the drug dealer that got away.

Just like the old saying...(give something to get something)....that's the whole idea behind this picture. The only time Germans & Americans will give something is to get gain something in return. I'm sure they want something from us in exchange...mark my words friends....Germany has always been an abitious country that only care to take other countries raw materials...I'm sure Mr. Fernadez has read their history and what they have done in the past. This people don't give nothing for free..History repeats itself my friends...They're coming after something and now the governement have just taken their bribes...

This is unreal ...40,000 euros is about 48,000 us dollars and is less than a private person often gives to charities ...What possible legitimate reason can a President have in spending much needed money to go to Germany ,,when he can much more easily thank the German embassy and send a gift to Germany ...this is complete lunacy .

danny00,

I don't understand what you mean by copying my comments to try to make a point...?? if you got something to say "just say it"...what that hell is la-la land? DOMINICANS HAVE THE SAME capability to become scientist and great tech people as the Germans, only if our politicians will stop stealing the people's money and invest more in our education system which it sucks!.... Perhaps you and your family are croock politicians involved in this processe. Instead of criticising people's comments, you should work harder in making logical recomendations and insteresting points on the issue....

Is LF getting frequent flier mileage, or does he hate his job so much he just wants to get out of dodge? I can't think of a single leader of a seemingly insignificant country who travels so much.

LF, you are not that smart or needed anywhere outside DR. Why can't you just concentrate on being a leader in your own country, improve the lives of citizenry? Is it possible you are setting yourself up for some future asylum...you can't expect citizenry to take your crop and thievery forever; now, you even want for the stout lady to become our leader-I say no!

This guy is quintessential corrupt banana republic leader; worst thing is he actually thinks he is fooling somebody!
