Vatican City.– A papal foundation that aids the development of the poorest populations in Latin America and the Caribbean has 230 proposals to consider when it meets next week in the Dominican Republic.

The administrative council of the the Populorum Progressio Foundation will consider which of the proposals most merit funding. Last year meeting in Germany, they also had 230 requests and were able to accept 193 of them, for a total value in aid of US$2.1 million.

The foundation was established in conjunction with the celebrations for the fifth centenary of the evangelization of the American continent. It aims at the advancement of the most marginalized populations in Latin American and Caribbean societies. Much of its work is with indigenous or African-American communities.

Pope John Paul II established the foundation, naming it after Paul VI's 1967 social encyclical.

US$ 9,000. per project. Sounds like a Vatican press op and junket to the DR for a bunch of priests and free lunch for Nikky.

$9000 per project less administration costs of travel , accommodation and sundry expenses and with some luck maybe $40,000 for the DR ,but with the same generous donation from Germany , the President felt compelled to fly to Germany to personally say thank you .!!

Should that not read the "wiping out of 100,000's of thousands of Tainos, Aztecs, Incas and a host of other cultures who thrived throughout Central and South America??"

Organized Religion....the biggest murderers of man's time on earth.....and it does not look like it will change soon.

You forgot to mention the men who used Religion as an excuse to gain power and wealth with the backing of the Church of Rome.

The Tianos were the first to suffer at the hands of the Europeans in the western hemishere 1492, excuse used by the Church......"In order to save their souls" .

Ever wonder if the Tianos were a war type people on that first contact / encounter ?

You also forgot to mention the Millions upon Milliions murdered in the last 100 years with the likes of Hilter, Stalin, Mao and many many others who did not use Religion but there own lust for POWER & CONTROL.

What ! "100,000's Thousands"......more like since 1492 20 million plus.
And to think, all in the name of GOD.....problem is like mostly all Religions they twist GODS word around to fit their own agenda to justify there actions of past, present and future.

really amusing. a few million dollars from the Vatican for numeroues projects. yes, the same Vatican that is the owner of untold wealth, much of which was accumulated be the plunder and destruction of the ancestors of the people it is now helping, if we can use that that term in this case.

Thats alright....Many ignore their own Church history.

The Church of Rome historicly has no conscience not even there action during WW-2 [Hitler & Pius, photo op and Nazi supporter] Pius is the only pope not buryed on Church soil in the Vatican reserved for the truely Church loyal....like way underground hidden, Pius shared hatred towards Jews, after all the Jews killed Jesus under Jewish Law....yet Jesus was Jewish and died a Roman death.....crusifiction.

There Religion is based on the old Roman Godess belief that Womanhood is the superiour being [Woman bare Children] thats where Mary comes in [Jesus's earthly mother only] yet they still consider her still a Blessed Mother Virgin yet she married and had more Children the Bible proves that, Mary is only mentioned very few times in the new testiment. Sounds like a strangle hold on Latin America belivers.

I can go on but I won't....I'll wait for a responce.
