Press Release
Cabarete, Dominican Republic. - As the world continues to pass through the global recession, the Rabinovitch Family has been lucky enough to find the perfect investment; the future of thousands of Dominican children.
Benjamin Rabinovitch passed away exactly 30 years ago this month and ever since, his son Donald has spent all those years thinking of the best way to honor his father, his mother and the very special life they shared.
When Donald learned of the DREAM Project’s campaign to find a small group of visionaries to build a Public Library, a Youth Music Program and 2 adjoining Montessori Preschool classrooms, he knew he had finally found his match. Thanks to the Rabinovitch’s culture of honoring their family, thousands of children will now have free access to these educational programs and the community will have access to one of the only functional Public Libraries in the entire North Coast of the country.
The intimate event was attended by local community members, the Rabinovitch family, over 75 DREAM volunteers participating in the annual Guzman Ariza Summer Program and the guest of honor, Doña Flora Rabinovitch. Mrs. Rabinovitch capped off musical and singing performances by the children with the story of how her loving son completed his quest to honor his parents and give back to the country he loves so much, the Dominican Republic.
Mrs. Rabinovitch is a 92 year old, retired public school teacher from the Bronx, New York, and the dedication has a special significance for her; “There was once a little boy that wanted to see the world and give back to the country he loved so much; a country that gave so much to our people. That little boy was my son Donald and this is how he has accomplished his dream.”
The DREAM Project is a non-profit organization that’s mission is to end poverty through sustainable education models in the Dominican Republic. The organization’s 10 different projects are located throughout the North Coast, with its base in the community of Cabarete.
The new Doña Flora and Benjamin Rabinovitch Education Center will host the annual Summer Camp and School, along with the “Estrellas Jovenes” at risk youth program, a Montessori Preschool program with over 180 children and the Public Library, which offers thousands the chance to escape from poverty through general literacy programs, computer literacy programs, English programs and many more.
