LIMONADE, Haiti.- Cooperation between Dominican Republic and Haiti is stronger now that the two governments have stated their willingness to establish harmonious bilateral relations and look for solutions to joint problems.

The Dominican chief executive’s latest visit to Haiti a sharp contrast to the one two years ago, when president Leonel Fernandez had to leave amid angry protests.

With the agreements derived from the fifth meeting of the Dominican-Haitian Mixed Bilateral Commission and the start of construction of a university Haiti’s north the Dominican president Fernandez and Haitian par René Préval stated the interest  for both countries to work and develop together the island they share.

Fernandez said he’s confident the initiative of the university would spur the international community to abide by their commitments and which the Haitian people await. “Haiti’s reconstruction process must be an every day task on the part of all the international community sensible to the tragedy which has occurred here.”

The Dominican chief executive’s latest visit to Haiti was a sharp contrast to the one two years ago, when his security detail had to whisk him out of Port-au-Prince after throngs of protesters converged in Haiti’s National Palace during his meeting with Préval.
