Good news if confirmed by other sources, but still a lot more needs to happen. Difficult to do as economic expansion often helps out those better positioned in the market place to take advantage. However, the government and private sector investment need to come in and institute greater opportunities via basic educational opportunities, greater economic trade relations, and creating a better investment climate in DR. The Rule of Law being fundamental as is tackling the infrastructure deficit in the nation.

Good news even when there is population growth, poverty is declining.

If you believe the population figures from the census and if you believe the poverty figures shown here , then you believe that the roads here have no potholes ,,these are totally flawed figures. We know there has been an increase in poor people coming here from Haiti , we know there is less traditional work at present for the poor and common sense would say that the number of poor has risen

Ricardolito,
i agree 100% percent, this is just propaganda and these numbers are not near accurate. Although there is nothing else i would like to see happen in DR than the reduction or erradication of poverty i have to say at least 40 percent of the population lives in poverty if not more, it is visible to the naked eye, i have driven around the country in many occasions and saw these things firts hand.

actually, Ricardolito, these numbers do no tell us what the margin of error is in the methodology for compiling the data. the figures are based on samples, and interpolation, because it is impossible to count every person in the population. therefore, there must be a statistical margin of error. if we do not know what it is, the numbers mean nothing.

glad you remember your statistical method studies, Dreadlocks and you are 100% correct,The smaller the sample the greater is the margin for error , But if you want to come to a predetermined answer before you do the statistics you can discard anything sample you want to, so the sample is not even random . So easy for the Bank to come to this conclusion above.

And since when the number figures they announce in DR are reliable?

Ricardolito, it is a pleasure to discuss this nuance with someone who understands what it means.

I wish I could remember who said "there are lies, damned lies and statistics" but whoever it was I think his point is well proven with this lot.
