Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez instructed the Public Health Ministry to help the mother of the baby Charleny Mota, born in extreme poverty Monday as the world’s symbolic seven billionth inhabitant.
Public Health minister Bautista Rojas told Rosalba Mota, 16 years old, that a house will be built for her and will receive medical services from the health authorities, which will also rent a house until the end of December, when she can move to their new home.
The unwed mother, who lives with her grandmother in the sector El Mango, in the community Boca Chica, Santo Domingo province will be provided help to raise her baby, but Rojas noted that in exchange, will have to go back to school, in the sixth grade. “We hope this family celebrates Christmas Eve in her new house, properly furnished, a home in which they can live with dignity.”

"Fertility rate.
The Dominican Republic ranks second, after Nicaragua, with the highest rate of pregnant adolescents 15 to 19 years: 108.7 for every thousand females.
Nicaragua has a rate of pregnancies among adolescents of 112.7, and overall higher values occur in Equatorial Guinea, 122.7, and in the Congo, with 118.7.
In neighboring Haiti fertility among young women is 46.4".
These are extraordinary figures.

Very nice thing to do, but What egos!!!
To believe that number 7,000,000,000 was born here defies credibility.

All over the world,. hospitals are claiming to be delivering the seven-billionth baby. It could be anywhere and no one will ever know, within the nearest 100,000 at best.
Regardless this is not a moment for celebration. It is a serious alarm bell for this planet, and especially the Dominican Republic, which has the highest unwanted pregnancy rate in the Americas. Fancy rewarding this stupid girl for her carelessness, and what an irresponsible message to be sending to other silly adolescents, not to mention the money that should be spent on preventing poor children from producing more poor children, rather than endorsing it.

The guy that got her her pregnant and her parents should be put in jail.
They should be released after building a house for her.
A'holes.

WalterPolo, she hasn't got parents. She lives with her grandmother. However now she's got a new house, I'm sure her long-lost parents will show up at the doorstep, along with the boyfriend and his other wife and kids. Happy families!

Mrs. Wilding could you provide the source(s) from where you have concluded that DR has the highest unwanted pregnancy rate in the Americas? I could provide sources that show that this figure is actually highest in Colombia. Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree that DR is in the Stone Age when it comes to the practice of abortion and the stigma behind it, but let's not make up things up out of thin air please.

I rarely agree with anthonyC.....but I think he is on-point with this comment, LOL . This idea reeks of a publicity stunt.
I mean, the idea of the DR government making a symbolic gesture of an unwed 16 year old Dominican mother is heart-warning.......................but this is like a slap in the face to the prolly hundreds of thousands of other single teen-age mothers in the DR who get jack squat.
Why doesn't the govt help all of them out as well.

This is either a distorted sense of priority by the DR government officials or this was just a PR stunt to make somebody look good. This not about helping an unwed teen age mother. It is about something else but use her to achieve that.

JEM237, whether
Whether DR is #1, #2 or #3, I wonder how long she'll stay at school in 6th grade at age 16, with a baby and a new house. When she quits they will confiscate the house?
Stone-age abortion is not the problem. Condoms are free here. These silly barrio girls chose to get pregnant. It is easier than getting an education or a job, and gets them away from their controlling mother or abusive step-father, and secures them a husband - so they think!

rather than reward someone a house for teenage sex they should spend the money teaching the girls what happens to their lives after giving birth at 15. This will destroy her future and keep her in poverty. Where is the "father" or sperm donor? Start castrating the men who impregnated the teenage girls that will slow the birth rate or force them to use condoms
