"Dominicans and look for solutions not hand outs" - Not true! With the level of poverty in Haiti, you would expect this but not from the wealth of the Dominican Republic. Nowhere on earth will you find more people who have money, beg like Dominicans in the DR. I will bet any of you in a friendly wager, let's say US$ 3,000 that if we go to the border of Jimani, many many Dominicans will beg you and the travelers for money on the Dominican side and few to no Haitians will beg you on the Haitian side. You would be stupid to take this bet since I make 2 to 3 trips in and out of Haiti every week.

Excuse me genius, since when did Haitians not pay for what little they have. Have you forgotten about the money spent by Haitians to buy goods on this side of the border? Have you forgotten about the Haitian workers who pay in toil and sweat to make a way? Since when did Dominicans start giving these immigrants free things? Since When? Everybody is laughing about the 'drug problem' part. There are more drugs consumed on this side of Hispanola in one year than are consumed in 50 years on the west side of Hispanola. airgordo,
Since you have mentioned me in your writing, I feel it necessary to address you directly. I appreciate the fact that you described yourself as mixed but you forgot to mention the components that make up your mixture. Black? White? Indian? What? For example, I am very light skinned; about the color of Figueroa thanks to a German/Haitian mix. I do not feel comfortable telling people that I am mixed because the world has already defined the standards of race and by this classification, I am considered black. Similar to Obama, similar to Jennifer Beals, etc. We are all classified as black. Why do I make this an issue? Only because much of the negative stigma assigned to Haitians by Dominicans has to do with the darkness of one's skin - clearly racist. I live here and because most people do not realize that I am Haitian (when I am around them), they openly bash Haitians in my presence.
From: Haiti
airgordo,
I hear the words, 'Prieto', 'Feo', 'Haitiano'. Two negative connotations attached as appendages to one nationality and used to describe human beings. Each one of these words is said in unison to amplify the negativity and has become a part of the pysche of many Dominicans - negative stereotyping. I feel that when you or other Dominicans come to terms with your Afro-Centric roots, and embrace them as being a part of you, there will be a greater sense of appreciation and value level applied to all persons of African descent. Haitians included! The problem is never the victim's fault but it is clearly the fault of the one who generates the problem; therefore, I am not trying to insult you, only to show you or remind you of who you really are.

As i said, HAITIANS that face discrimination on DR, DO NOT face it becasue they are black, they face it becasue they are HAITIANS, a Black haitian and a Black american or cocolo, or French are treated DIFFERENT!! how can that be if they are both black?? so is very easy to see that the ISSUE is not the RACE
Written by: airgordo, 15 Apr 2011 12:01 AM

The stigma to the haitians has NOTHING to do with race, it has to do with HISTORY it just happens that the haitians were black, and as such people associated all the bad things from the west with that color, and STILL do!! that is a logical explanation which is demostrated very quick by the way people treat black guys from different places, THE BLACK IS THE SAME, the place were they come IS NOT.
Why do you think that dominicans bashed haitians in your presence?? is it becasue they are black or is it because what they represent for those people?
From: Haiti
airgordo,
Please keep in mind that the word Afrocentric does not only describe an African 'center' but also means 'derived of' (an African background and make-up).. The latter is what I am trying to apply as the basis of my argument.
Look, I am not trying to tell you that you should negate the white part of your make-up, only to get you to appreciate the black part of your make-up; enough so, that you will realize that our likenesses should be binding and our respect for one another, brotherly; in the best of terms, primarily based on a common connection between Haitians and Dominicans that is 'derived of' our common African ancestry. Case in point, Carmen frequently states that Haitians are creatures. She would never state this if she identified her own self to that of a Haitian by our common threads; leading back to our ancestry and make-up. Just as our differences define who we are, our likenesses should also motivate us to respect one another.

I don't live on Utopia, there will never be brotherhood between dominicans and haitians, too much blood is bettween, that is the CRUDE reality, just as there is not brotherhood between master and slave, i don't recall any example anywhere, other than USA-UK, of some sort of brotherhood between colony and colonizer, therefore a realistic example would be TOLERATION... FYI, many haitians ALSO behave like they are the master race, actually a friend of mine really liked a haitian girl (VERY nice) but he was kicked out BY HER FAMILY because he was dominican, and this was ON DR SOIL, SANTIAGO de los caballeros, so jerks are just jerks...There would be some sort of "Getting along" if DR was getting BENEFITS from the huge presure of having to support the haitians with it is limited resources

Papa 999,
The truth or La verdad is that no other nation in the world has taken in more Haitians than the Dominican Republic. Something close to 20-30% of the people of the DR are Haitian or their descendants! Fromm the "Sons of Boyer" to the recent arrivals. Thus DR has nothing to be ashamed of vis-a-vis Haiti. Haiti owes DR big time historically speaking. The threat of takeover has historically speaking always come from West to East on the island of Hispaniola. DR is not an advanced nation-state and what the Haitians need most is to arrange a structural program that de-populates Haiti in an organized way and towards the first world nation-states. But because of racial issues, the first world allows little Haitian immigration unto their soil. These same NGOs so preoccupied by the suppose mal-treatment of Haitians should instead fight for more Haitian immigration into first world nations. Any economist worth his/her salt understands that the best way to get Haiti

out of her tragic situation is to encourage immigration into 1st world nation-states. The enormous uplift in opportunities involved in living in a first world environment will bring enormous positive consequences for the people of Haiti. It's a well known strategy and has worked its magic in many other nations, so the theory is well grounded. Haiti has a mere 10 million people, perhaps a little more, and could easily have a structural out immigration program in place, but for the intransigence of the 1st world nations. These nations would prefer that DR be the "solution" to the Haitian albatross. Well many people in DR have had enough and say that the rests of the world needs to chip in. I for one would have liked to see the French lead the way, since they were the Master creators of that inferno Slave Colony, and thus owe an enormous Human debt to the ex-slaves of Haiti, and take up the Senegalese offer made shortly after the tragic events following the Earthquake of Jan 2010

With a sound structural strategy involving many nation-states over the course of say 30 years, Haiti would have been totally re-organized and a better balanced nation-state emerge. Haiti might be expected to have say a population of 3 million with the other 7-9 million spread out internationally. The ecological balance would return after over 100 years of overpopulation and vast destruction of the lands and forest.

Cantave is just bitter, he can't stand Dominicans, so he throws accusations and his personal opinions as facts....
He wants Dominicans to say their are black and of Haitian descent, but he doesn't get that not all all Dominicans are black or of haitian descent. that there is a large populations of European descent that does not want Haiti to pour ove the border and turn DR in to the same caos and civil unrest state as Haiti..
I would love to see this issue resolved, the illegal inmigration brought to a halt and those that are already in DR deported.. we don't have to bear with the burden of Haiti's failed policies.

Minicanos hates my people, there no doubt about it, we cannot sugar coat this fact.
Therefore I have no choice to have the same feeling toward those Minicanos that wishes ill faith on my people.

Listen - Let's get off the subject for a second. Today, I must have passed 3 major auto accidents on the roads/highways and since we are coming up on a holiday, I would like for everyone to take it easy on the roads. You young people like to drive those fu.king little Honda Civics zipping in and out of traffic and flying on the highways. I have seen too many feet sticking up and out from underneath white tarps on the roads from these accidents. So, to all of my Haitian and Dominican brothers, to all of my Haitian and Dominican sisters, and to all of my friends and enemies out there, just be safe on roads and try not to drink and drive. Maybe I'm wrong! I'm just an old trucker.

pleeeaaaaseeee
hundreds of haitians is a drop in the buckett, i like to see thousands of haitians get deported at once. The bahamian and jamaican governments deport all of the illegal haitians without any regards of human rights and they suffer no consequences, criticism or world wide condemnation.
DR gets rid of a couple of hundres and all hell breake loose.
If you took the time to check out cantave's video (10:33 time stamped) you would have seen ugly in the latter portion of the video and they were not Haitians. I think that someone needs to do a study to find out if Brugal Rhum decays teeth. There are ugly people in every country so stuff it!
Solutions like these?????????????..............
"In a chartered flight that originated in Miami Thursday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) returned 73 aliens, including 69 convicted criminals, to the Dominican Republic. Those removed included three convicted of murder, two convicted of sex offenses and one who was wanted for murder in the Dominican Republic." - HispanicallySpeakingNews.com
Please stop trying to make yourself look holy'er than thou. The world knows what is really going on. We should work together to become a powerhouse - Haiti and the Dominican Republic. 'Divide and Conquer' is an old colonial tactic to destroy progress.
" We should work together to become a powerhouse"
no no no
you should work on your side of the island first, build something that looks like a civil society and then we talk about being a power house, nobody goes into a partnership in which only one partner is working and have a future and the other one is a free loader with a drug problem.
vete a trabajar para tu pais primero, reforestalo, construyelo y despues hablamos, o.k LAMBONAZO
sounds like the haitians were simply relocated to another part of the DR
Excuse me genius, since when did Haitians not pay for what little they have. Have you forgotten about the money spent by Haitians to buy goods on this side of the border? Have you forgotten about the Haitian workers who pay in toil and sweat to make a way? Since when did Dominicans start giving these immigrants free things? Since When? Let's stand on the side of the truth when making our points - not your dreams. If you want to start stating B.S. on this thread, I will start to bring back the 'conjoined twins' thing and I know that you won't like that. Hablador/Mentiroso - Old School Trini
Everybody is laughing about the 'drug problem' part. There are more drugs consumed on this side of Hispanola in one year than are consumed in 50 years on the west side of Hispanola. Dominicans consume more beer and rhum but Haitians consume more whiskey. I have not figured out yet who consumes more vodka.
Divide and conquer will not work, has it ever
At RD$2,000 per cabeza, it's great business. And no inventory to keep.
I'm proud of my African heritage and most Dominican are NOT and that’s la VERDA!!!!
Another self-proclaimed Dominican, papi si tu eres Dominicano, yo soy Ruso.

I'M WAITING to see if someone puts FACTS to the BS they throw on this forum to MY country, i'm sick and tired of that!
As a general rule when discriminated a haitian will not be discriminated on DR because his blackness, it would be because HE IS HAITIAN, proof?? Black Blue COCOLOS in san pedro de macoris, Samana and La Romana!!! i write FACTS not BS on the air...by the way racism in haiti is WAY BIGGER than in DR, is just called REVERSE RACISM, or discriminating againt someone becasue is LIGHTER than you.
Why do you think that dominicans bashed haitians in your presence?? is it becasue they are black or is it because what they represent for those people?
Some stupid Minicanos tries to behave like they were a master race, see as long as Minicanos are treating the poor Haitiano campesinos like crap,i shall not and must not have any respect for no Minicanos what so ever.If Minicanos still wants to be fighting the war of 1844, well it is up to them.
I could care less about what a Minicano think.
Prepared to be treated the same way your people are treating the poor Haitiano campesinos.
We tried to smoke the peace pipe with Minicanos but seem like the are still at war with the Haitianos.
Well it is what it is.

Respect and all that sounds great BUT for that to happen it has to be MUTUAL...i already gave an example when it come to DR Chickens and eggs on how this NOT mutal at all, that is WHY the bast mayority of Domicans have never seen anything good from haiti
Siempre altiva la frente alzará:
Que si fuere mil veces esclava
Otras tantas ser libre sabrá.
Que si dolo y ardid la expusieron
de un intruso señor al desdén,
¡Las Carreras! ¡Beller!... campos fueron
que cubiertos de gloria se ven.
Que en la cima de heroíco baluarte,
de los libres el verbo encarnó,
donde el genio de Sánchez y Duarte
a ser libre o morir enseñó.
Y si pudo inconsulto caudillo
de esas glorias el brillo empañar,
de la guerra se vió en Capotillo
la bandera de fuego ondear.
de Castilla al soberbio león,
de las playas gloriosas le aleja
donde flota el cruzado pendón.
Compatriotas, mostremos erguida
nuestra frente, orgullosos de hoy más;
que Quisqueya será destruida
pero sierva de nuevo, jamás.
Que es santuario de amor cada pecho
do la patria se siente vivir;
Y es su escudo invencible, el derecho;
¡Libertad! Que los ecos se agiten
Mientras llenos de noble ansiedad
Nuestros campos de gloria repiten
¡Libertad! ¡Libertad! ¡Libertad!
