NEW YORK. - President Leonel Fernandez met with Haiti par Michel Martelly for more than 30 minutes to discuss bilateral topics, especially the reconstruction works post January 2010 earthquake, which killed tens of thousand of Haitians.

In the meeting in the New York Palace hotel also participated the ministers of Foreign Relations, Carlos Morales, of the Presidency, Cesar Pina and Administrative, Luis Manuel Bonetti, as well as Dominican ambassador to the UN Virgilio Alcántara.

Fernandez reiterated his commitment to donate the university being built by the Dominican government in Haiti next January 12, and announced a donation of two buses, so the students who live far from the new facility can attend, and told Martelly that he secured with U.S. friends a donation of 15,000 books for the college.

At 10pm when concluded the meeting, which the Press didn’t have access to Morales said the chief executives were very upbeat on Haiti’s future, in the wake of friend and donor countries’ pledge on Monday to go from talk to facts on its reconstruction.

Martelly thanked Fernandez directly for the Dominican government’s efforts to help the Haitians, Morales said, adding that the chief executive invited the Haitian leader to the university’s ribbon cutting, since it will be one of the first works built after the quake.

"in the wake of friend and donor countries’ pledge on Monday to go from talk to facts on its reconstruction."

Again, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating." So let's see what these actors REALLY produce. Too much hot air, so far on this issue. Of course, the Haitian political and economic elite have NOT come to terms or just barely did last week on FINALLY allowing a government to be formed in Haiti!!!

International donors have to be concerned with such utter lack of self-expressed stability and public-mindedness!! Betting money on this chaos is likely to see international funding go into the abyss.

Let's all hope that this time things will be different.

There's gonna be a lot of money coming into Haiti and here's a great opportunity for DR corporations and businesses to make a killing, as it were.
Leonel can express to Martelly that we're more than willing to help in the reconstruction and that we should have first "dibs" into it.
We can supply everything from foodstuff to medical equipment to building materials, etc. We have heavy equipment, manpower and the know-how to do the job properly.
Martelly owes us a lot of favours and won't say no.
Let's roll up our sleeves and get to work. $$$weet!

But Martelly is also trying to get his way and using whatever means he has to tie LF's hand by insisting that DR go easy on the numbers of Haitians to be sent back or repatriated. There are a lot of maneuverings and posturing going on with these expected flows of funds into Haiti. LF needs to stand firm and get DR her fair share of the offerings since DR has done so much to help Haiti in her time of Great need. Besides, if Haiti thinks it has problems now, a half-million repatriated Haitians would destroy any forward movement on that part of the island. SO LF has strong cards to play, too. Of course, Martelly is trying to use his foreign connections to force LF into a more compliant position vis a vis the Haitian diaspora living in DR.

Let's see who wins in this multi-player game.

Clinton man Dr Garry Conille got ratify by the Haitian lower House by 89-0. The Private sector is happy also with his selection. The industrial park on the north coast by the South Korean textile tycoon which suppose to employ 60k workers is due to began operating early next year. Funds just got allocated to rebuilt 16 neighborhoods in the capital. Spoke to a friend of mine in Miami he told me about an order sitting at the dock heading to Port-au-Prince 20 new Toyota tundras 4x4 sounds like Bechtel is on it way. I hope LF is making sure The Dominican contractors are getting a share of the pie, you have stood by our side during the worst of time it's only right.

@MissHaiti.
I surely hope you can retain the mind-set to help your people prosper in the future. The one thing I would recommend in order to do so, is to get a good education. Nothing matters more and almost guarantees success, than to gain knowledge. Prepare yourself in your young years and , who knows, someday you may become president of Haiti!
I wish you well.
