Tamboril, Dominican Republic. - President Leonel Fernandez cut the ribbons on a housing project Villa Progreso Tamboril on Thursday, and a neighborhood cafeteria in Navarrete, both in Santiago province, built at a cost of more than RD$200.0 million.

The housing complex, built through the National Housing Institute (INVI) cost RD$194.0 million, features 256 houses assigned to families left homeless by landslides in 2009 in the district Carlos Diaz, in the Northern Mountain Range.

The project is similar to others built by INVI with funds from the Corporacion Andina de Fomento, with matching funds from the Dominican Government.

The complex includes 16, two story buildings, with apartments of 40 square meters, in an area of 10,240 square meters.

The neighborhood cafeteria in Navarrete was built at a cost of RD$13.5 melon, to benefit thousands of poor families of the zone.

Jhc, you're definitely living a pipe dream. Do you not realize this is the best thing the PLD has done in 12yrs, not only that, its the only time that the cost of a project made any sense that included leonel cutting ribbons.

Check this out:

La Torre Atiemar was built for at least what the president let them borrow, lets say 30million USD which got us 21 floors and 36 units that's only 36 families

This project was built for 5.2 million USD and it got us 16 buildings at 2 stories for 256 families in Santiago

Pa'lante would mean that leonel would be incarcerated....

My man JayBabuena.....you beat me to it.

I'm sure there were more construction material used to build 16 2-story buildings as well ... This is the shet that angers me... Why can't the higher courts pick this up and charge leo and strip him of his wealth to give back to the country, then make him get a sex change so he can strut his stuff to make ends meet.

If you build on squatted, landslide-prone land, then vandalize the forest, what do you expect? Brand-new tax-payer funded housing, to keep breeding like flies in, of course.

... and if you see a posting of the truth you don't like but can't fault, what do you do? Use multiple aliases to gray it out with minuses of course. Coward!

Ron, "melon" was a typo. It should read "pumpkin" as in:

Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,
Had a wife but couldn't keep her;
He put her in a pumpkin shell
And there he kept her very well.

Do i read this riight ? 16 -2 story buildings, 16 family units. To accomodate 256 families at a cost of US$20,000 @.40sq meters. Kind of expensive, unless they have the means to pay it back in 30 yrs. Most likely with a 3% fix interest. Each building of 16 at a cost of US$320,000,that is the price of an average US house.

You know, Roy. There's a lot to be learned from nursery rhymes. If we can interpret it literally, it means: Do not give your wife reasons to fwck you over, because she will!

I learned the hard way.!

"Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,"

It also means, one needs to eat her pumpkin every night, if one wants to: "keep her very well".

Does LF clip pieces of the ribbon to give as a memento for each of those attending?
