Santo Domingo.- President Fernandez Monday announced the delivery of 2.0 million stoves and the same number of medium size propane gas tanks free of charge to poor homes in Haiti, aimed at substituting the use of charcoal with cooking gas.
The donation forms part of the agreements signed by Haiti president Michel Martelly and Fernandez and through the recently created Bolivarian Fund.
That Fund will also finance the construction of a 138 kilowatt link to Haiti’s and Dominican Republic’s national electrical grids, aimed at making the neighboring country’s energy system more efficient.
Fernandez said among the projects in Haiti figure the repair of the Artibonito dam, the construction of eight hospitals in border towns, four in Jimani, Dajabon, Elias Piña and Pedernales, and four others in Malpasse, Belladere, Anse-a-Pitre and Ouanaminthe.

How much of the Government funds will be allocated for this private venture ? How will the dominican government or shall I say Leonel benefit from this ?
Did any of the Cabinet members disagree or was this done behind closed doors as usual ?
Someones hands should be cut off at the bicep and thrown into the ozama after a downpour.

The funding is coming from the Bolivarian Fund!
Would you rather another country provide these goods, services and buildings?
like it or not, Haiti is being provided with lots of government assistance, Europeans and others. DR is the best positioned nation since it shares a border with Haiti for meeting many basic to intermediary goods and services. Stop for a moment and think. A potential marketplace with more than 10 million people is being created next door to the DR. You think DR might find that proposition good for her own modernization and development?

All in good time. If OUTSIDERS are willing to fund developmental schemes that HELP your own cause, Why not support these schemes?
You can't demand that these funds ONLY be used in DR. Let's be a bit more reasonable here. Haiti's development is being facilitated by outsiders (for whatever reasons you might care to note) and the DR stands to make some positive steps in meeting some of her (Haiti's) current and future needs. So how is that bad for the DR?

The problem here atabey is that if you're not connected with supreme being or pay homage to the emperor you wont benefit.
Just look at were leo is focused on "NG" and "Construction", do you think the playing field is leveled ? I sure don't.
Yes no other country can benefit more than DR, strategically it's plausible. But, when you have a person of a character like leo that only budges went it's in his favor not the countries and orders underlings to create shell companies, it makes one wary of his intent due to realistic suspicions .

Roberto,
Don't take this wrongly
We live in the world that is, not the one that isn't. I'm sure that Leo & CO. have their wheeling and dealing going on, but in truth, What principal agents around the world don't have their hands greasing this or that friend, partner or political contributor? It's part of how this game of Representative democracy politics is played the world over. You think The Hippo or another one of the clowns wouldn't do similar acts of greasing?
Bottom line: If there's business to be made in Haiti's reconstruction for outsiders, better it go mostly to Dominicans firms and individuals. The demand for Dominican goods and services will help fuel part of the Dominican economy. And that's an over all good development. To wait to do business for a day when everything is transparent, on the up and up, with zero possibility of corruption, etc., is to dream a lie. Punto y Fin.
BTW, I hear there's a history of some corruption in Haiti, too. Just saying.

"Young people in DR face multiple obstacles to employment"
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.- According to the Ministry of Labor, more than 24 percent of young people in the country are unemployed, figure that many qualify as very high. Various strategies are used by young people to try to get a job in Dominican Republic, but in most of the cases they are in vain.
The obstacles facing young people to get a job are multiple. These joined with low salaries, are causing despair among youth.
The levels of unemployment became apparent this weekend during a job fair at Agora Mall, attended by thousands of people for only 300 jobs.
The unemployment rate among young people aged 15 to 29 is more than one 24 per cent, and 30 and older 9 per cent.

Corruption Update from josean:
The Purple Attorney General and former law partner in the firm Lie-onel and his former secretary now wife worked at says:
“Felix Bautista may not be investigated until there is a formal indictment, according to Jiménez Peña”
Alicia Ortega reports that Lie-onel Fernandez's right hand bagman Senator Felix Bautista got 69% of the $500,000,000 million US dollars assigned by the international community to reconstruct Haiti.
"On the program The report with Alicia Ortega was presented the full preliminary report of the investigation that says companies of the Senator did not meet the conditions required at the time of closing the bids which resulted in Bautista being awarded 69 per cent of the $ 500 million budgeted for the implementation of diferent projects in the neighboring country, leading to the Commission that investigated the case to recommended the suspension of contracts."
