The DREAM Project has proudly combined forces with the WimBash Music Festival Series to connect aspiring Dominican artists with world-renowned guitarist Eric Gales, Hip Hop’s DJ Rampage Global and Wimbash’s founder, legendary bassist Doug Wimbish. The Dominican Republic’s most unique blend of musical talent will take place on the beach at LAX Cabarete, the evening of May 12th. The second annual installment of DREAMin Live is quickly creating a reputation as the country’s premier rock concert and the most innovative response to our need for quality education. What makes this entire Cabarete DREAM weekend so appealing? Everyone is invited to the show, free of charge, and thanks to the event’s sponsors, will raise much-needed funds for quality education programs.
The WimBash Festival Series
Wimbash is unique in that it brings together an eclectic group of music genres on one stage, utilizing local talent alongside well-known artists while working together with one of the Dominican Republic’s most effective and popular Non-Profit Organizations, The DREAM Project. Wimbash is a community and family based, organic, relaxed and educational event. In early 2012, the concert series has already partnered with The Miami Preservation League, the School of Rock and The DREAM Project to bring Wimbash to the cities of Miami, Philadelphia and Cabarete, Dominican Republic.
The concept is simple: identify a number of progressive sponsors and contributors that believe this amazing event will draw more attention and create a larger support network for DREAM’s work in education. As the problems improving the Dominican Education system linger, new answers such as DREAMin Live are getting a lot of people’s attention. This year, JetBlue Airways has continued their dedication to the Dominican community through The DREAM Project as a primary sponsor. In addition, 4TW (DominicanWeddingPlanner.com), Velero Beach Resort and Cabarete’s most famous beach bar, LAX, have teamed up to offer this unforgettable evening to everyone, free of charge.
The Artists
Doug Wimbish has been one of the world’s most sought-after electric bassists since his groundbreaking days with The Sugar Hill Gang and Grammy Award-winning rock band Living Colour. His talents universally recognized, he has produced, toured, and recorded with musicians including The Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood, Bruce Springsteen, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Herb Albert, Annie Lennox, Madonna, Carly Simon, Seal, Al Green, James Brown, Billy Idol, Robbie Robertson, George Clinton, Depeche Mode, Tara Turunen, Kanye West, Mos Def, and currently with Lauryn Hill in her recent reemergence.
Joining Wimbish, also hot off Lauryn Hill’s European tour, are Eric Gales and DJ Rampage Global. These three artists are recognized as leaders in their respective musical genres, Bass, Guitar and DJ. Combined, the three have performed in front of millions of people in hundreds of countries, with more than 25 albums recorded between them.
What makes DREAMin Live and Wimbash so unique is its collaborative essence, bringing these world famous musicians together with aspiring Dominican artists, such as Soullibre’s Van Avakian on drums, rap group Circuito Negro of Santo Domingo and Cabarete’s own Culture Shock, featuring Joey Ciotti (lead vocalist/guitarist), formerly of Trixie Goes Hollywood and Platinum Blonde. Dominican breakdance champions Metamorphosis and local Dembow dance competition winners will also join these musicians, showcasing the incredible talent the DR offers in both dance, reggaeton and hip hop. All of these amazing artists will participate with The DREAM Project and their young students through music and performance workshops in the days leading up to May 12th’s show.
In the Dominican Republic, a country suffering from a severely underperforming education system, the likelihood of a Dominican child completing a quality education is extraordinarily low. The DREAM Project (Dominican Republic Education And Mentoring Project) focuses on raising consciousness and much-needed funds for innovative youth education programs. Jonathan Wunderlich (DREAM Project Development Director) says the shared belief is that quality, early and continuing education is the most effective way to break the cycle of poverty and change destinies. The vision is that all children born in the Dominican Republic have the opportunity to receive an education and learn to their full potential.
Through the vision, love and compassion of their musical guests, DREAMin Live/WimBash >>Cabarete will offer North Coast residents, along with visitors from within the country and abroad, the opportunity to attend one of the year’s hottest concerts, while at the same time creating an innovative platform for musical expression, one that uses music to reach children in need and raise funds for their education and future. According to Wunderlich, “This amazing, free concert on the beach is a new way to bring us all together; world class musicians, Dominican artists and the entire community. All of us involved share a vision of music, education and intelligent solutions to confront our common problems”.
