Santo Domingo.- Charlie Mariotti, Senator of Monte Plata province, sponsored a resolution in 2010 for the Dominican Republic Senate to recognize the humanitarian work of the Batey Relief Alliance (BRA).
Since 1997, BRA invested more than $65 million in various key programs and projects of food security/agriculture, health/HIV/AID, water/sanitation, education and disaster relief, benefitting more than 100,000 impoverished and vulnerable people annually living in the bateyes, rural/urban slums and border communities. “It is an honor for us to receive this great recognition. But it is also the recognition of the good will of the Dominican State and its people that have provided us the opportunity to work with them and serve those in need,” said Gaillard.
During a ceremony held in his office on Wednesday,11th of July, Senator Mariotti presented a Citation to BRA's founder/CEO, Ulrick Gaillard, who was accompanied by some members of the Board (Juan Cordero and Eduardo Cortes) and the organization's Executive Director, Maria Virtudes Berroa. At the ceremony were also present other senators from other provinces, including La Vega, Independencia, Santiago Rodriguez and Maria Trinidad Sanchez. “The work of the BRA in the province of Monte Plata is an example to follow throughout the country because the organization is serious and delivers,” added Senator Mariotti.
