Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina returned to the country Monday night from Santiago, Chile, after taking part in the First Summit of Latin American and Caribbean States and the European Union (EU-CELAC).

Medina, who arrived 10pm at San Isidro Airbase aboard a private flight, was received by several military officials.

In his Monday morning speech, Medina suggested that Latin American and Caribbean countries boost their economies to help the people. "What’s vital is that the people have buying power to boost the economy of their nation."

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.-Great part of the budget of the Dominican Republic is lost in the hands of corrupt officials, illicit transactions and nepotism, said journalist Nuria Piera on her program, “Nuria Investigación.”

Reputed journalist denounced on program on Saturday that the director of government program Worthy Community (DGCD), Juana Sánchez, has used her office to enrich herself, as well as to favor her families and associates.

Sanchez was employed at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), from where she receives a pension of 25 thousand pesos a month, in addition to her salary at Worthy Community, which is higher than the salary of the President of the Republic, Danilo Medina, of 175 thousand pesos, according to the 2010 payroll report she was also employed at the Dominican Corporation of State Electric Companies (CDEEE) and is leader in the ruling party of Dominican Liberation (PLD) since 1981.
