Jimani, Dom. Rep. - The UN Development (UNDP), and Environment (UNEP) programs, and the Presidency’s Administrative Dept. will host the "Solutions and Projects Fair for Lake Enriquillo Communities" next Saturday and Sunday at Jimani’s Liceo Maximo Florian, Independencia province (west).
The fair aims to bring assistance, simple solutions and technology products which contribute to improve the economy and quality of life of communities or homes in the area, especially in health, food, services, energy, waste management, farming, water etc., which are vulnerable to disasters and climate change that challenge the region.
It also aims to draft plans to implement support mechanisms with partial funding for some of the solutions, so families can access them with the necessary information and advice.
There will also be workshops, panels and conferences related to Lake Enriquillo’s problem, to foster cross-sector dialogue and expedite solutions to help cut poverty and climate vulnerability for those most affected.
Lake Enriquillo’s swelling has heightened the population’s deficiencies, in a region where 53.8% of its population the Economy Ministry classifies as poor.
