Santo Domingo.- Ethiopia, Botswana and the Dominican Republic made the largest gains in food security in the past year, according to a new report cited by Voice of America.

Increases in income and food availability in developing countries drove the largest improvements in this year’s Global Food Security Index, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Botswana ranked number 43 out of 107 countries studied. But most of sub-Saharan Africa scored low. Even with this year’s gains, Ethiopia is number 90.

Meanwhile, economic losses in Greece and Ukraine pushed those countries down the index.

Democratic reform and political stability were linked to improvements in food security in Burma and Sri Lanka, while conflict pushed Mali, Yemen and Syria down the index.

The index comprises 27 measures of food affordability, availability and quality. It is funded by the seed and chemical company DuPont.

ASS-uming the numbers the PURPLE Liars reported are Ture:

Imagine how much better we would have done if we had a real non improvised agriculture policy and not wasted a Billion and half Dollars on a USELESS METRO!

The DR haters aren't going to like this Global Food Security Index, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

According to the results 9.9% of Dominicans live below the global poverty line.

Only Mexico (4.5%), Costa Rica (6%), Uruguay (1.2%), Argentina (1.9%) and Chile (2.7%) have lower numbers of people living below the global poverty line.

Not all is good (The Affordability score is only 54.7 out of 100) and more must be done in the DR, but this study should give the daily nay sayers some food for thought.

Atabey you cannot, in all seriousness and politics aside, possibly think that a only ten percent of the Dominican population lives below the poverty line. Just a cursory tour of ANY part of the country will put that number to shame.

CibaeNo78,

Go to The Economist Intelligence Unit and report your own study results.

Do you believe they would falsify results in order to please LF?

Please.

The DR haters aren't going to like this Global Food Security Index, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

According to the results 9.9% of Dominicans live below the global poverty line.

Remember there is some statistical deviation involved, but that goes for all these measurements.

The onus is ON YOU GUYS TO DISPROVE THE STUDY IN QUESTION.

Get cooking and if you have a better study, I'm all ears.

Until then, let's enjoy Josea Cat and his humble pie of Crow!

"Do you believe they would falsify results in order to please LF?"

I don't know about the Economist .... but I know Lie-onel and the PLD are more than capable of Lying and giving FALSE information, case in point;

Oh CACALAMI!......... a Slap Down from the Haitian Venezuelans!

In Venezuela they oppose importing chickens from the RD

Venezuelan producers rejected a possible import of chicken and other poultry products from the Dominican Republic, after claiming that this would constitute "a health risk".

"The report from the World Animal Health Organization indicates that in 2012 confirmed a mild infection of influenza avian in the Dominican Republic." However, the Dominican Government denied the disease. Currently it has a dispute with Haiti, a country which suspended purchases of chicken and eggs from Dominican Republic."

Says josean Lie-onel’s LIES are catching up to the DR, the Dominican People and Poultry Producers are now paying the Price!

9.9? Believe that malarkey if you want Atabey. The CIA World Fact Book listed those Dominicans that live below the poverty line as of 2010 at 34.4%. That's sounds more realistic and even if we accept that things have improved in a tangible manner as of late there is no way that number has been reduced by nearly 75% in these last three years. Be serious.

Just the capital alone have more than that, even more when we take into account that these days more than a third of the country lives here, and every good urbanization here has a barrio attached to it.
