Half of the children from 3 to 5 aren’t going to school

Santo Domingo.- A lackof a birth certificate, poverty, the parents´ fear and the distance are themain factors that keep 50% of children aged 3 to 5 from going to school.

The data is part of thepreliminary findings of a study by university professor Boanerges Dominguez,who said school coverage in the population of three to five years is around50%, including private schools.

According to the studysponsored by the Dominican Research and Evaluation for Quality Education Institute(IDEICE), 83% of children who don’t attend school lack birth certificates.

"Those who havebirth certificate attend the initial level 2.2 times higher than those who haveno birth certificate," Dominguez said, interviewed by listin.com.do.

As to the povertyfactor the expert said there’s a 8.4% difference in attendance between the poorand non-poor.
