Medina acknowledges the country’s low wages

Panama City.- President Danilo Medina on Thursday made a surprising acknowledgment that Dominican Republic has low wages, despite keeping mum during months on labor’s threats to stage nationwide shutdowns unless salaries aren’t raised

He said the region’s industrial policy has been formulated and implemented with a system of unfair competition based on low wages and incentives.

Medina, who is taking part in the 7th Summit of the Americas taking place in Panama, said the among challenges faced by greater regional productive integration figure full access by businesses established in the region, coordinated expansion of markets with national industrial policies in a regional or subregional framework.
