The country faces hurdles to meet Development Goals

Santo Domingo.- TheDominican Republic faces hurdles on measuring compliance with the UN´s 17Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) to accomplish between 2016-2030, for whichthe indicators have yet to be designed.

Economy Deputy ministerJuan Monegro said the country had difficulty getting sources of information totrack the targets of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), whoseexecution was set between 2000 and 2015, with the same point to measure statistics.

"This is a veryserious problem, very strong, and it is a great challenge now facing the ODS,because there are more and more goals," he said.

He said of the 60 MDGtargets the country would adopt in principle 48 goals, and of those informationwas found on only 21, for which the challenge is to ensure mechanisms to followup on the new ones.

Of the 21 goals withdefined values ??to complete the MDGs, Dominican Republic reached 14, seven advanced, but not fully met; 35 others also posted advances, but aren’t measurable innumerical values ??since fixed guidance wasn’t assigned.

The UN adopted 17 new sustainabledevelopment goals for 2030 and the Dominican Republic should make a conclusivebalance on around 169 guidelines outlined in the global action plan.
