Lawmaker warns of Police rebellion in ‘onion wage’ push

Santo Domingo.- Espaillat province SenatorJose Rafael Vargas on Sunday said outside agitation, protests, and the recent complaints withinthe National Police pose a threat of a rebellion.

"These statements and those marches arenot random," said the lawmaker, who stressed that agitating the police isdangerous.

Vargas rebuked police officers’ demands inthe social networks of better living conditions and the picket which supportthem.

The senator’s warning come in the heels ofmounting complaints by police officers against monthly salaries as low asRD$6,000 (US$130), which one policeofficer dubbed "onion wage," because "just looking at it makesyou cry."
