Santo Domingo.– Lightweight contender Joan Guzman (29-0, 18 KOs) made a return to the ring and won a twelve round unanimous decision over Ameth Diaz (25-7, 19 KOs) in a WBA eliminator at the Palacio de los Deportes in Santo Domingo.

Guzman used his boxing skills to outclass Diaz in every round. The scores were 119-109, 119-109 and 120-108.

Back on September 13, Guzman was scheduled to fight WBA/WBO/IBF champion Nate Campbell in a live Showtime televised main event. He was unable to make the weight, coming in at 138.5-pounds, and never returned to weigh in a second time.

Good work Guzman, but this was an easy night out in any case. Now stay sharp for another fight or two so you can make the big money match with Pacquiao or Hatton. And for God's sake watch the weight gain between fights!

Time to stop fighting bums. Lets get a real fight in and see where he's at.

Well we know he can step up, he took out Humberto Soto and JR Barrios who are decent non-bum names. Still we are all waiting for him to step to world class which means Hatton or Pacquiao, or Nate Campbell if he can be convinced to come back to the table. Guzman could also throw down with Marquez @ 135. Many geat fights, find your way into one Joan!

I don't think he is ready for Pac yet. Pacquiao looked good the other night.
He needs to get a few more tune up fights, maybe with one of these good Mexicans (Marquez?).
Last time I saw Guzman he still looked a little wild in the ring. He needs to learn how to box a little bit more and he will be ready.

Marquez is no tune up, Pac went life and death with him every time they fought. In fact Marquez won more rounds if you total both fights, however Pac sent him to the canvas enough times to take back the points and get a victory and a draw. Pac is great and he is def P4P top 3, but do not judge his level by that fraudulent fight with Delahoya. Joan would give him a much tougher time and with some technical polish Joan could even win. Both have similar hand and foot speed. Joan may have superior defense due to his stance and style, though Pac looks to have filled out better weight-wise and may be the stronger man.

brootto Humberto Soto was no bum, he was a titleholder when he fought Joan. Barrios may not have been a champion but was def a ranked fighter when they met. These guys are not world class but they are not club fighters. I like Delvin, caught him live once at the Paradise Theatre in the Bronx, but has he faced a top 10 welter yet? That is a deep dangerous division...

Inuk did I hit a nerve? Pac is no fraud, all respect to him, top 3 p4p like I said. You must be a fan of the Golden Girl.
