Alex Rodriguez in Cap Cana
PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic. - New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez said he’s not afraid of the criticisms by the American press, for deciding to represent Dominican Republic in next year’s World Baseball Classic.
Rodriguez, who played with the United States in the event’s first version in 2006, said the reaction his decision can generate in the American baseball world is not important.
He said he’ll play with the Dominican team and won’t waver like he did in 2006. “I don’t fear the criticism. The attacks are part of my life, for that reason anything they can say or write there doesn’t worry me.”
The slugger, speaking during his participation in the Celebrity Golf Classic organized by the Foundation of the also slugger David Ortiz in Punta Cana, said his decision to play with the Dominican squad “is irreversible and it’s due to the fact that I want to please a dream of my mother, the rest of the family and of mine own.”

I'm not an A-rod fan. I think the guy is full of himself and he's horrible in the clutch. With that said he is arguably the most talented guy in the game today. If he wants to play for DR to placate his mom and his family then good for him. There's no negating his ties to the US in doing so. It's not like the US and DR are going to war. They're simply going to play baseball and there's nothing wrong with showing a little Dominican pride. Hell, the Puerto Ricans are all American citizens and they have there own team.

You've got to be kinding if you honestly think Alex is not getting into the Hall of Fame. His numbers alone already put him ahead of many players that have even won a World Series. Lets not even mention players that are not active any more. Let him win just one world series and he'll be unreachable. Just because some don't like him for whatever reasons does not mean he won't be chosen by the experts in the field. Another thing I laugh because whenever Alex goes to DR, the haters there immediately stop talking trash and in turn kiss his ass.
