NEW YORK. - The New York Mets will open a new academy near the resort town Boca Chica next Thursday, a farm facility for future Major Leaguers located two kilometers north at  the Jubey highway crossing, near the capital Santo Domingo.

In a statement, the Mets said several senior executives will travel to the Caribbean country for the ribbon-cutting, a delegation which includes the team’s owners. Dominican government officials have been invited to the ceremony slated for 12 noon.

The Mets is one of the baseball teams with the most Dominican players on its roster, Pedro Martinez Duáner Sanchez, Jose Reyes, Luis Castillo and Fernando Tatis among them.
