BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic.- The New York Mets cut the ribbon of a modern baseball academy in this beach community on Tuesday, with a ceremony headed by president Leonel Fernandez, who threw the inaugural pitch.
Present in the inaugural were Dominican Government officials and Mets executives, headed by its president and chief operations officer, Jeff Wilpon.
The academy, located about 30 kilometers east of Santo Domingo and built at a cost of 8 million dollars, will be the home to the Mets representative team in the Dominican Summer League and will replace their previous facilities, located in San Cristóbal (south).
