Beijing.- The Dominican boxing has again won an Olympic medal after 24 years, with by victory on points by light welterweight (11-6) Felix Diaz over the Iranian Morteza Sepahvandi, in the quarterfinal bouts.
Although Diaz’s started slow in the scoring, he quickly found a way to counterpunch his opponent to exhaustion and landed better combinations, as the strategy by Cuban trainer Pedro Luis Diaz paid off for the Dominican team.
With at least a bronze secured, Diaz’s next rival in the semifinals is France’s Alexis Vastine, who beat the Mongolian Munkh-Erdene Uranchimeg on points, 12-4.
Pedro Julio Astacio's bronze medal in the 1980 Los Angeles Olympics was the country's last win in Olympic boxing.

The DR with its immense reserves of boxing talent should be an Olympics boxing power. And DR lacked and lacks the training, necessary to develop its talent in the sport, always looking to the back-stabbing US imperialists for answers.
Boxing talent in the Caribbean is 1st the Mexicans who almost exclusively aim at the pros.
The Cubans, in 2nd place, who aim at amateur competitions.
The 3rd place PRs who are well trained and have mix pro and amateur outlook.
Then the DRs, largely untrained, and what is trained in exploited by pro hustlers that use and dump them without a dime.
Felix Diaz' medal shows cooperation between the DRs and Cuban can be fruitful for both.
Jamaican and Trinidadian tracks stars commonly train in Cuba and take full advantage of Cuban sport medicine.
But disgusting imperialist propaganda dogs criticized DRs who try to lift themselves.

With the Chinese exercising their all-around excellence for a whopping 35 gold medals so far, it's really hard for anybody else to get anything.
The USA looks respectable with 19 golds. The UK is a surprising 3rd with 11 golds.
The Cubans so far have one gold, 3 silvers, and 4 bronzes. They counted on some of those 3 silvers to be gold, but the Chinese aren't giving up any gold unless they have to.
But the Cuban got nothing to be ashamed of.
Look at Argentina, with only one bronze so far.
Look at big fat Mexico, tied with Argentina with one bronze.
Look at big Brazil, which wants a permanent seat of the UN Security Council as if it were a world power, with so far 1 gold and 4 bronzes.
The LA/C country that has really showed out so far is Jamaica with two golds and two silvers.
Thus, Jamaica with 2, Cuba and Brazil with 1 each are the only LA/C countries in the gold.

ETHICAL AND IDEOLOGICAL SIDE
The Nobel prizes and Olympics are the two top and most prestigious venues where countries go, pull out their things, and boast my mine is bigger than yours.
At the Nobel prizes, countries say to others we're a smarter than you or, in other words, you're dumber than we.
"Hey you, doesn't your people know anything? They've never won any kind of Nobel prize or even come close."
At the Olympics, they say to others we're stronger than you or, in other words, you're weaker than we.
"Hey you, your people are so weak, they can't even run or swim."
So, performance in Nobels and Olympics gauges and fixes, to a certain extent, the degree of self-esteem that one feels for oneself based on national origin.
For the young, this may be a powerful source of career motivation to pursue excellence in the arts, sciences, and ethics.
At the moment, the USA doesn't look so strong at the Olympics.

I happened to read an article here in China about your great boxer fighting here in China. It says your boxer put a Chinese National Flag around his back and received a thunderous echo from the Chinese audience. However I regret to learn that your country has no diplomatic relations with PR of China. Are you thinking of starting a serious relations with China? Why not? Anybody can answer me this question? I want to know the true feeling of ordinary Dominicans towards China.
By the way, China's total medal is 76 today including 43 gold medals.

Dear DannyVC,
Very interesting answer. I think you are brainwashed by some biased media.
Are you representing the opinions of majority of your Dominican people? Why are their 167 countries having diplomatic relations with China while you are among the few who doesn't?Can anbody explain that?
