Santo Domingo.- Olympic gold medalist Felix Sanchez on Monday asked Dominicans to pray for his recovery from an injury of his left foot, and will wait until the last minute to decide whether he'll defend his 400 meter Olympic hurdles title.
The runner said he'll wait until August 15, the day when the heats begin in his specialty, to determine if he's strong enough to competi.
Sanchez said his health conditions should be evaluated daily. "My biggest problems with the injury is when I jump the hurdles," which he said are his real rivals when stepping onto the track.
The Dominican noted that he isn't afraid of runners such the world champion, Kerron Clement, of the U.S. and called on Dominicans to say "one million" prayers so God helps him recover for the Beijing Olympics.

Yes AnthonyC. Dominicans should not be overpaying and gawking for athletes that were not even born in our country. Shame on us.
We should follow the US example, where they don't give a rats ass about foreigners such as Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Albert Pujols, David Beckham, Roger Federer. Not only they get NO PRESS or FAME at all but they don't get paid more than scientists and doctors or writers.
I hear that Stephen King is making $72mil a year...oh wait...that would be Simon Cowell. I guess Simon Cowell is a great american writer, right? What was that? Simon Cowell is a BRITTISH show host? Did you say SHOW HOST? You meant scientist at least, right? Oh, SHOW HOST..I see. My mistake.
Well, anybody can make a mistake. Let’s lay off of AnthonyC. Maybe he means to say that we should not be praying for athletes who represent our countries just because they have Dominican descent. What we should be praying for is androgynous pedophiles who sing about rats and mirror

cont..reflections. Yeah like the imbeciles who stood for days on end outside Michael Jackson’s trial saying he was innocent.
Truly, AnthonyC, we are not lucky to have been born in a country were doctors and scientists get more press than Paris Hilton, Brett Favre or even Hannah Montana, the way you are, so please have some compassion.
I’m gonna go now because my favorite US show is on the air “Scientists Gone Brilliant!”
As brilliant as ANTHONYC, I am sure.
I’m just kidding. What ANTHONYC means to say is that countries should not allow foreign nationals to represent them in the Olympics.
What…what was that?
“The number of foreign-born athletes competing in USA uniforms has increased since the 2004 Olympics.
There are at least 33 of them, compared to 27 at the 2004 Summer Games, according to the U.S. Olympic Committee. They include former Tully track star Lopez Lomong, Bernard Legat and Leo Manzano, who will represent the U.S. in the 1,500-meter race. Lopez, is from

Some of the other athletes were born in China, Korea, Vietnam, Austrailia and Russia.”

Hey Guys. Guess What?
I don't approve of the US using foreign nationals Either!
The US is just as guilty as the DR at promoting false heroes. That doesn't make it right.
So come on.
I really want to promote true Dominican Heroes!

Sorry, I could not hear you over my violin here.
First you complained that we should not pray for him because he is not poor or sick. Well he is not rich either and he may not be sick but he is injured. Besides, people pray for whomever they feel like it. See if praying will help ANYBODY, anyways.
Second, make up your mind? You want to promote doctors, scientists, writers OR athletes? If you think that we should give attetion to doctors and the likes, then you would have to agree that athletes are not heroes, no matter where they are born so it is a mute point you are making.
Some people need religion to feel good. Some need sports. Leave them be. I don't believe in God but you don't see me in a religious forum talking smack about JC and his unkempt beard.
You want to promote a true dominican heroe? How about Antonio Guzman Fernandez? Why is he a hero? Because near the end of his term he took a gun a blew his sorry head off. That's self criticism!!

The hippo would have been a hero if he did it at the beginning of his term...and saved us our criticism

Does anyone see a pattern? AnthonyC loves to follow in every post created for him because he claims that Sanchez is not Dominican. I wouldnt be surprised if he does this on every blog about Felix. Tony cry me a river. No one takes you seriously so please, stop

all of this is crazy. Felix Sanchez is as dominican as any one who was born in the DR and raised in the US, or born in the US to dominican parents and even those born and remain in the DR. Dominican REpublic is a Transnational coutry. Ours economy is dependent on forgien countries, our culture is influenced by other countries. This border issue is crazy. Think about it. Our prez was raised and educated in the US. Is he dominican?
U are whatever u see urself as. I live in the United States and have become a citizen of the United States. I am american. But i am also domincan. And as much as i want the US to kick ass in the olympics. in the 400m hurdels and every other event with a Dominican i will cheer for my dominican brothers and sisters.
Get well soon felix. Bring the dominican people both in the island and away some pride

I agree with efrain92.
....and AnthonyC, I understand your point of view. I'm 100% Dominican and I'm also very grateful with the United States for giving me an opportunity to make something out of myself. I have to say that the Dominican people are very into sports, which I think is great. I think that people like you do not realize that the only time through out history where the whole world comes together is at the Olympics, and I have never seen the whole world come together to write a book. Sports is where every nation in the world put differences aside and compete against each other without killing themselves.... and I rather see competitions in sports than WARS.
