Santo Domingo.– The Boston Red Sox placed right-hander Bartolo Colon on the restricted list yesterday. Boston had put the 2005 American League Cy Young Award winner on the suspended list Friday after he elected to stay in the Dominican Republic instead of returning to the club.

He had left the team to tend to a personal matter. He will remain on the 40-man roster but will not be paid for the rest of his contract. Should Colon change his mind or the Red Sox find themselves needing his services on an emergency basis, he could still be called back to duty.
