New York. - For the first time in its history, the International Baseball Federation (FIB) published a World Ranking of countries in the sport sustained by scores acquired through international competition, in which no surprisingly Cuba occupies the first place.

The surprise is the Dominican Republic, which despite being by far the country with the most players in the Major Leagues per capita, was ranked only 17the.

Cuba is followed by the United States, Korea, Japan China and Taiwan.

Among the other Latin American countries, Mexico is ranked 8, Panama 9, Puerto Rico 11, Nicaragua 12, and Venezuela 15.

Brazil, Germany and South Africa occupied the last three positions.

can you beleive these guys whomever is ranking this it is not doing a very good job......who give the Boston Red Sox their two champioshep this decade. i believe that if is wasn't for Many and David they wouldn't never got it. this is nothing but a bunch bullshit, think about it who is highest paying baseball player right now. Arod correct. so they can keep their ranking to themself. we will keep the greeN, cash, dollars, pesos or whatever other currencies they may want to pay us. I am surprise that haiti was not in 4th or 5th place since it looks like every other countries is against the DR. WHO CARES NOT US.

They ranked DR according to their international tournament performance which is always poor b/c pro players do not participate. Players that represent DR are almost always military personnel.

BenCardozo, hit the nail right in the head with that post, everybody know that when you talk about baseball the Dominican Republic is the number one in the world, not talking about latin america, I am talking about the whole world.
