COPENHAGUEN.- The International Olypmpics Committee on Friday announced Rio de Janeiro as winning city to host the 2016 Olympic Games, a competition in wwhich Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid also took part.
The annoucement that Chicago wasn't selected stunned its promoters, which included U.S. president Barack Obama.

i said it a million times; the USA is about to pay the bill for its snubbing of other countries in the runup to the Iraq invasion. it is about to get a lesson from the rest of the world in humility and respect for others. do not look for any support for the USA on matters requiring consensus any time soon. maybe, some day, when someone comes along and reassures the world that other people's voices count, the USA will host another international event.

Wonderful news and I am sure that the delegates were quite capable of evaluating the various bids without any juvenile payback emotion involved ;When first Chicago was eliminated and then Tokyo , the supporters of those bids nearly all got behind Rio , It will be wonderful to have the Olympics in South America for the first time but the cost to a country is enormous and although some countries say there is a residual benefit for many years after the games, some countries have just built white elephants such as unused stadiums .
What a time with South Africa hosting the World Cup soccer for the first time and now Rio with the Olympics ,,Hope we can get some Dominicans into the games and also that it will be free to air here

But most Dominicans will not be able to get a tourist visa to go to Rio. If only Argentia had won. This does not benefit Dominicans in any way, the warm weather might help.

I hope there will be some relaxing in the visa issues during the Olympics ..I have just been reading the minute to minute account of the voting process from the BBC and there appears to be no anti American sentiment but simply that the presentation from Brazil was so emotional and so persuasive that the more conservative presentations , that were made earlier before the lunch break were simply swept aside .. I will read a few other accounts later .

sometimes I wonder if this site is a site for news about the dominican republic or just another talking point for the republican party. Even more, I wonder if all the propaganda that is slung here by some makes sense to the issues of DR. However, it is even more surprising that so many share the same views. Very odd.
