Santo Domingo.– Angels right-hander Jose Arredondo will undergo Tommy John ligament-reconstruction surgery on his pitching elbow and miss the entire 2010 season.

Arredondo, 25, was examined by Angels medical director Lewis Yocum this week after experiencing pain in his elbow while pitching winter ball in his native Dominican Republic.

The player spent time on the DL in June and July becauses of a sprained ligament in his elbow. The surgery has not yet been scheduled, but recovery time for the major operation will keep him out of action for 2010.

Arredondo followed an outstanding rookie season in 2008 (10-2, 1.62 ERA) with a disappointing 2009.
