Cincinnati.– Looking fit and trim, pitcher Edinson Volquez reported on Friday
that his rehabilitation from Tommy John ligament-replacement surgery is
moving along well but not too quickly.
"I was supposed to throw in December, but I'm going to wait until next month," Volquez said. The right-hander said that there have been no setbacks with his elbow recovery, however.
"I can throw, but I don't want to rush it," said Volquez, among the numerous players in town this weekend for Redsfest.
In only nine 2009 starts, Volquez went 4-2 with a 4.35 ERA, but he did not pitch after June 1. He had the surgery on his elbow on Aug. 10 and was expected to be out nine to 12 months. After the regular season ended, Volquez spent about a month in Cincinnati to continue his rehab. He is now doing his work at the Reds' academy in the Dominican Republic.
