Punta Cana.– Pedro Martinez remains intent on pitching in 2010, and the Phillies remain on his mind. Playing in former Red Sox teammate David Ortiz's charity golf tournament in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic, on Saturday, the veteran right-hander made it clear his experience with the Phillies was a good one, right up through the World Series.

Martinez told the press the Phillies "treated me very well and they were very professional. They will always have the door open."

A three-time Cy Young Award winner, Martinez went 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA with the Phillies down the stretch, and made three starts (0-2, 3.71 ERA) in the playoffs, including the Game 6 loss that clinched the World Series for the Yankees.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told Martinez shortly after the World Series that the Phillies have not closed the door on his return in 2010, but are focusing their efforts elsewhere. "More specifically, our need at third base and in our bullpen," Amaro said. "Those two areas are our priorities."

Like Douglas MacArthur, perhaps Pedro should just fade away. I was never one of his fans and always found him to be a head case. He also played for the wrong team: the dreaded Red Socks!

Hope Yankees would never consider him and, if they did, I would never cheer for them again.

Maybe Phillies would take him back and face Yankees in world series once again, especially at Yankees Stadium, and he gets his tail-end kicked once again all the way back to the East River. Guess I just don't like the guy, be he Dominican or anything else.

Yeah, I know, some of you will bring out all the statistics now. I am not interested, so please keep them. When he eventually gets to the hall of fame, I hope they put him in a new and obscure wing, so I never have to see his bust.

He is a head case, no matter how you might spin his legacy.
