WASHINGTON. - Dominican major leaguer Miguel Tejada Wednesday admitted his guilt of lying to Congress in an investigation on the use performance-enhancing drugs in United States professional baseball.

Tejada, the Most Valuable Player in 2002 when he played for the Oakland A’s and is now with the Houston Astros, could get as much as one year in jail, though federal dispositions establish a lesser sentence.

His case stems from testimony for a House of Representatives probe in 2005, when he said he didn’t know about the consumption of those substances in the Major Leagues.

The federal authorities also investigate if star pitcher Roger Clemens lied to Congress when he denied having used steroids or a human growth hormone.

We must forgive M. Tejeda for lying to Congress. He is Dominican and happens to be cursed with the same problem so many in his country have. He is exactly like 85% of his countrymen, including the likes of LF, R. Jimenez, R. Segura, Fermin Guzman, etc. He must be proud of the company he keeps and his fellow Dominicans. Sammy Sosa may be just like him also. But who cares. Throw his ass in jail for lying under oath.

JD: Check out who is in charge of the government here. It is run by Dominicans, not by the US Embassy. Complain about the lack of law enforcement by the Dominican Police and the Dominican drug enforcement agencies. They are the people responsible for the for this continuing plague.

He's in big trouble. If he is sentenced to 365 days or more in prison he'll be deported to DR. He better pray he only gets 364 days or less in county jail!

Sad, sad, sad!

Three very prominent Dominican baseball players, the pride of Quisqueya, implicated in the steroids debacle. Thank God for the true great ones that preceded them: Juan Marichal, the Alou brothers, Manny Mota.....etc.
Their attitude seems like a mere reflection of the explicit example put forth by our illustrious leaders; however, I do not excuse them. They were fully cognizant of their actions and did it to increase their power and endurance and financial benefit. No matter how you might spin this, they are cheaters and I am glad they were caught. There is simply no honor in nefarious victories, no matter how great the adulation of the adoring fans.

I find it most hypocritical that we so righteously castigate gov't officials for essentially doing similar misdeeds as these ballplayers, yet do not accord the same judgement to these clearly crooked ballplayers.

Seems US needs to fill the jails. A famous star in jail will surely encourage criminals to lie and make crime so they can join him. US jails are profitable for the corporations that run them and there is by far the lagest jail population on earth in US prisons. Plus where would the US economy be if it was not for jail workshops?

JD I'm afraid to say that the US congress indeed has more important things to do but they simply WONT

As far as Tejada, he should be stripped of his visa or whatever other documents he has.

In the U.S. Congress, the Black Caucus understands the game that is being played here. There is some sense of white supremacy here. They don't want to see too many minorities leading the way in baseball. Therefore, The Black Caucus is key to stopping Congress from moving ahead with investigating every little incident in baseball.

White people like to say that Babe Ruth did it on hot dog and beer. How do they know that since baseball players weren't tested for steroid back then.

cruz, be careful with those irrational statements about racism. as we speak, the prosecutors are readying their documents to clean Roger Clemens's clock. lat time i checked, he was a very white guy.

dreadlocks,
Sometimes the system will sacrifice one or two white guys just to destroy 100 minorities. Don't be fooled by this maneuvering.

that is a risky gamble, in this case.. there are too many big name icons of America's Pastime who could get burned by that gambit. lots of white guys, like McGuire, could go down with this ship.

Josean states that Alex Rodriguez is not Dominican. Alex mother and father are both Dominican which makes him of Dominican hertiage. I would recommed you stick to your METRO conversation.

"Dominican hertiage"

Where does it say that on his birth certificate or US Passport?
