Miami.– Washington Nationals team president Stan Kasten believes his organization was the victim of "deliberate, premeditated fraud" that involved a top prospect from the Dominican Republic creating a false identity to secure a $1.4 million signing bonus three years ago.

That player, who has been going by the name Esmailyn Gonzalez and was thought to be 19, has been discovered to be 23-year-old Carlos Daniel Alvarez Lugo through an investigation conducted by Major League Baseball and instigated by the Nationals in late 2006.

"I'm very angry. We've been defrauded," Kasten said during a conference call from the District. "And make no mistake: This wasn't a college kid with a fake ID that came in and did this. This was a deliberate, premeditated fraud with a lot more to this story, and we are going to get to the bottom of it. There were many, many people involved in this premeditated fraud."

It is all too apparant to the world now, the DR is famed by its exports of Drugs, Putas, Liars, Cheats, and Mullti Million Dollar Frauds. Be it Chicas, Peloteros or RE Deals/Projects, the DR gets the Grand Prize. God help this little Island. The good folks of the DR have been suppressed by the Greedy Powerful Elite. The SCJ is corrupt as are the PN & Military (MG/FAD/Ejercito). Maybe the time has come for another Dictator, as all political parties are cut from the same cutter? Just a comment....When in the DR, Have Fun and Leave safely, remember DON'T TRUST ANYONE on the Island, Extranjero o Dominicano.

What an awful comment, the DR is not paradise, but the situation is not worst than in any other country in Latin America, The Caribbean and some other developed countries and there are still a lot of good people out there, no need of another dictator at all.

He must not be as talented as first thought.
If the kid was the next the next super star they would not give a damn about his age.
Cuban wrote the book on this!
The expo's.. aka washington nationals have had some of the best players come from the DR.
Buyer beware, next time maybe do a little better research!
They fail to tell us the # of kids they have screwed over the years.

Get to the bottom of this? You must be kidding. What have we ever gotten to the bottom of? That is other than the list of 134 countries in primary education.

i dont really think his age should mean anything when it comes to the contract. 19 or 23 his is still and adult. they cant be serious, 4 years diffrence, it shouldnt matter if he played up to the part to where they signed him on. the kid is 23 and he played like a 19 year old..who cares??

Blame it on the JCE whose goal is to register (and re-register) everything they run into in DR!

This is laughable....this from an organization that is being investigated top to bottom for skimming on the bonuses they gave the young Dominican kids they signed at WAY BELOW MARKET RATE (in comparison to equally-talented American kids)......I didn't read any of this outrage from Kasten or the organization when they got caught. Pathetic. No excuse for the prospect's actions, or his advisors, but to claim outrage when you don't address the rest of the picture, give me a break.....bunch of hypocrites.

By the way, anyone remember Furcal's case with the Atlanta Braves? They had no problem once the age discrepancy came to light since by that time he was playing well at the major league level. The Washington Nationals are a joke organization top to bottom, but what can you expect with a drunk/ and a soon to be fired criminal as a GM?
