Santo Domingo.– Pedro Martinez will pitch in a competitive game for the first time in 10 months on Sunday in Class A.

The 37-year-old righthander, who went on the 15-day disabled list immediately after signing with the Phillies on July 15, will pitch for Clearwater against St. Lucie, The Inquirer reported.

Martinez has thrown twice since signing. He had a bullpen session July 18 before the Phillies played the Marlins at Land Shark Stadium and pitched a simulated game Tuesday in Clearwater.

Martinez's next outing could be Friday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley of the International League, the paper reported.

I HAVE TICKETS........

PORT ST. LUCIE — Jeffrey Kaplan is happy to be part of Sunday’s pitching matchup pitting a pair of 45s.

The St. Lucie right-hander is scheduled to take the mound at Clearwater’s Bright House Field against eight-time All-Star Pedro Martinez, who will be making his first FSL rehab start in preparation for joining the Philadelphia Phillies down the stretch.

“It will be great,” said Kaplan, fresh off a win Tuesday against Daytona. “He’s a guy I’ve watched growing up, and I admire him. We wear the same number, too, so that’s pretty cool,”

The place will be packed....

I am not a Pedro Martinez fan, since I am a die-hard yankee fan and he played for the enemy.

As a dominican and baseball fan, however, I recognize that he was a gifted pitcher, perhaps one of the best from his generation. It is questionable that his brain was running always at full capacity, and his demeanor clearly seemed a little dark at times.

Let's not forget fact that he was not a durable guy and spent way more time in DL than many of his contemporaries. He did this to such an extent that he should probably return some of the money, as he clearly did not earn it.

His best days are clearly behind him and he must do the correct thing and just walk off into the sunset and fade away, so that he does not jeopardize his marginal chances of representing DR in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Hope he is listening.

The Phil has themselves a bargain; is better to have Pedro at 1 million a year then Oliver Perez at 13 million per year who is only 2 and 2. Hay mama, como nos envidian los asarosos.
