NEW YORK.- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Police (ICE) spokesman Luis Martinez yesterday confirmed that New York Mets Ambiorix Burgos was transferred from the of Rikers Island prison in Queens to an immigration jail.
In the Dominican Republic the pitcher still faces manslaughter charges in the death of two women he allegedly ran over with his vehicle in early October last year, in the town Nagua (north).
The official confirmed the information on the Dominican news source barrigaverdard.com, which said the former Major Leaguer’s deportation to his native Dominican Republic was imminent.
Martinez refused to talk about specifics in the case, affirming that ICE doesn’t authorized information on criminals detained in the entity which is part of the Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS). “I cannot say anything more on that case, the only thing that I can confirm is that Mr. Burgos is in fact being held by us in the ICE, in an immigration jail.”
