Miami.– The Rays invested more than US$7 million to bring in RHP Rafael Soriano to finish off games. Then Soriano didn't make it to the end of Friday's opening spring training workout.

Soriano left the field with head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield after stretching and playing catch, but only because he was suffering from what the team said was a chest cold.

Manager Joe Maddon said it was "no cause for concern," and that he was impressed Soriano came out on the field at all. Soriano said it was not a big deal, something he'd had before at the start of camp: "I think it was just too cold for me."

Besides, he said, he doesn't need much work in the spring, planning to wait until next week to throw his first bullpen session and working in only 7-8 games. He said he threw a few bullpen sessions before leaving the Dominican Republic and felt "great."

I have met Soriano personally and know this guy history from his beginning back in AAA in the Seattle mariners and how many bumps this guy has gone through and this guy is no looser and never quits. I wish they would bring him here to the Astros so I can see him more often. This is the guy who provided 100s of free tickets to all Dominicans and done a lot in the background to promote baseball in the Dominican Youth he brought a whole team to play a championship to Seattle to which they won 16 out of 17 games and the only one they lost was 1-2 in the 12 inning. This guy should make us all proud because he is not well know yet he does a lot for us as a country, by the way many of the kids in the team he helped come to Seattle have been signed such as Liriano with the Yankees and Manuel "El toro" with Kansas city and more are getting to the sigininng age and his exposure to them gave them a better chance to be signed. His cousin Tony lives here in Houston so I hope he comes here.

Blu

Because of him I got to meet many MLB players like David Ortiz, Albert Pujols, Manny Ramirez , Miguel Tejada and many more AAA players. Even with his busy schedule he always took time to cheer up the kids coming from DR and encourage them to stay playing and not give up. Soriano has been through a lot from head injure to arm surgery but teams keep him around because of his hard work of the field and on the field. He is still well loved around Seattle fans because of his friendly attitude to all people. He is still helping the kids.
