New York.– Four Dominican Summer League players, including a pair of New York Yankees prospects, have been suspended for the first 50 games of the season following positive tests for steroids under baseball's minor league drug program.

Yankees pitcher Israel Tolentino and catcher Josue Rodriguez were penalized along with New York Mets pitcher Melvin Colon and Cleveland Indians outfielder Steven Lebron.

Tolentino and Lebron each tested positive for boldenone metabolite, the commissioner's office said Wednesday. Rodriguez tested positive for metabolites of stanozolol, and Colon for nandrolone.

Eleven players have been suspended this year under the minor league program, including six from DSL rosters.

When the most valued characteristics in a society are the ability to lie, steal, and cheat, exactly what do you think that young people learn? When the prize can be gained by doing whatever you want to, whether it is legal or honest, what do people do? They do whatever they want with no respect for rules. These are the values we have instilled in our young. This is just another symptom of our failed state.

well, the first thing to consider is who it is that importunes these kids to do this stuff. surely, with some sort of moral epicenter, they would reject any entreaties to cheat. but, coming from a society in which the leadership encourages amoral practices, it is little wonder that we receive weekly reports of such missteps. but, the blame does not lie squarely with the young man from San Juan de la Maguana, who can barely spell syringe. it also lies with his agents and directors, whose financial fortunes are intricately tied up with his performance statistics. so, they persuade him to do what is necessary to get a leg up on the competition, placing him in a better position in salary negotiations, hence assuring themselves a more gargantuan commission on the deal.

juanb your right on the money. These baseball leagues need to start making it clear to these kids that one bad drug test and they lose everything. They feel they can be only punished a little if they get caught which is what they have been taught here.

Our athletes need to be held to a higher standard and let it teach them to be better people.
